A special thanks to “Anonymous” for going to the conference and sending us this email. If anyone else has anything to add please send it to me. I would even be willing to post a “Breakthrough” if anyone wants to email me.

One would wonder, why did Tommy Tenney, at the NW Breakthrough Conference (formerly Intercessor’s Conf) keep referring to PF as Pastor Hank? Was it a joke, that I missed somewhere, or was there another reason???
Just Wondering!
Please withhold Name

Looks like PF isn’t quite as famous as some might have thought. Then again, Tommy Tenney may just be a fan of this blog.

Pastor Hank, that’s classic.

Temple Christian

Posted on March 12th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

I have gotten a couple of requests to write about my time at Temple Christian High School (now City Christian High School). However, I don’t really have any complaints about my time at TCHS. It wasn’t the greatest school in the world, but I think the teachers and administrators worked hard and did the best they could.

While I rarely use this space to write anything positive about City Bible, I do want to say one positive thing about TCHS. Between highschool, college and law school, I have had over a hundred different teachers, and Mrs. Coleman, who taught me English and Latin, was easily one of the best teachers I ever had.

I am not going to spend this time going into some sappy tribute. But I will say that I remember almost every vocabulary word she made us memorize. I learned how to spell the word “business” from her spelling tests. I remember reading the Odessy. And I remember most of the short stories we had to read. She is just a great teacher. Her English class would be AP English at any public school.

Anyway, I don’t think Mrs. Coleman gets very much credit. And I don’t usually say nice things on this blog. So, let me just say thanks Mrs. Coleman. You prepared me for life, and I really appreciate that.

Characteristics of Hell

Posted on March 11th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

An email via my old college roomate:

Thesis: Exothermic or Endothermic

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so”profound” that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.

Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, “it will be a cold day in Hell before I date you”, and take into account the fact that I went out with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY “A”

Love the Sinner; Hate the Sin

Posted on March 10th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

…this is what I was always taught growing up. You love the sinner. But you hate their sin.

And that’s really what this blog is all about. I love the members and leaders of City Bible Church, I just hate how they act and how they behave. I hate their self righteous hypocrisy. I hate their arrogance. I hate their condescending behavior. And most of all I hate their obsession and love of money.

But trust me, City Bible, even with all that sin. I still love you.

(That doesn’t sound very convincing does it…

…and you wonder why homosexuals want nothing to do with the church?)

And I saw the sign

Posted on March 9th, 2005 by Reformed Pope into the About Us category

I just finished reading Don Miller’s book Blue Like Jazz which is excellent. Towards the end of the book he has 2 chapters on love; loving others and loving yourself. In them he talks about how if people feel that you don’t respect/like them then they will never listen to anything you say.
He also talks about how he slowly began to realize that God loves the religious, self loving, hypocritical Christian as much as much as he loves everyone else.
So, he had to let go of a lot of issues that he had with his previous church. I started feeling like maybe I should follow Don’s lead and start to let things go…

And then I get sent this email.

I noticed that “citybusinesschurch.org” and the .com are available. If you’re interested, I’ll register the two domains and provide you with free web hosting. Care to kick up your blog into the next level? I can help you install some discussion forum software, and you can perhaps consider creating a community instead of just a blog. Of course, you can keep the blog, but a discussion forum might be fun. You can also move your blog over to the new domain, too.. if you prefer.

Let me know if you’re interested.

Either God is trying to test me or God is sending me a sign.
Hmmmn, we’ve been praying for a miracle so it must be a sign.

Thus sayeth, “The Frank”

Posted on March 7th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

My brother JP moves in the prophetic. Here is his prophecy regarding the future of City Business.

The Frank would say to you-a,

“Give me your money and watch me pour out blessings upon my church.”

“I’ll cover this “city” church with plasma screen TV’s; I’ll replace the carpet and update the lighting” say’s the Frank

“Rise up oh check book of faith, write down a figure far beyond your means, and I shall stretch out my hand and receive this check. I shall take this check and deposit it in the bank of profits, now is the time, this is the season”

Thus sayeth the Frank.

Stake Out for Christ

An anonymous reader and, City-Business-survivor, sent me this link to an article from the mid-90’s. Its an article discussing how pastors in Baltimore placed stakes around the city to protect the city from Satan. They got the idea from Pastor Frank. It is quite possibly the stupidest idea I have ever heard. And is on par with the time me and my brothers got the idea to stuff our two year old sister into a pillow case and swing her around, because of course, she would like it. “Its like a roller coaster” we told her.

Anyway, read the article. Its pretty entertaining.

Religious Blogs

Here is an interesting article in the NYT about blogs that take a slightly alternative look at religion.

Something Real and Relevant

Posted on March 4th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

According to the City Bible website, Pastor Frank is holding a brunch this Sunday, March 6 at 10:30 am at the West Campus to discuss Forward Together and the future of the church.

Will someone PLEASE attend this brunch, take notes, and email me what is said. This blog was set up specifically for events like this. You can email me at justin.morton@gmail.com.

I really don’t want to have to pay my 11 year old brother to go. Because somehow I think he’ll get all caught up in the brunch aspect of the event. And his notes will be detailed accounts of exactly how many pieces of bacon were available for each person. And that’s not exactly what I’m looking for…

These beers are making me drunk

Posted on March 3rd, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized, About Us category

Just to prove I’m not above making fun of anyone or anything.

Once again I thought I had it figured out, and once again I was wrong. It’s amazing how I keep drinking over and over.

You see, for me, learning the truth about the booze was such a strong revelation that I actually thought I had it all figured out. But, I am slowly realizing that I can’t drink as much as I first thought. Here’s the problem: I like booze. I really do. It’s not some sort of prejudice based on race or religion or sex; I pretty much like all booze the same. Blame my parents, they home-schooled me and now I have “social issues”. That’s my excuse anyway.

Reformed Pope, you’re a praying man, what are the odds of catalyst ever putting down his beer? It just won’t happen, but wait it gets worse. What are the odds of catalyst laying down his beer on a Sunday afternoon for anyone? It’ll never happen.

I could go on forever. The point it this: I am living a beer-like lifestyle and I wan’t to change. If only I could find a way to do it without all the sacrifice.
