Who would Jesus fire?

Posted on April 19th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

I know I just wrote how I felt bad for CBC and didn’t want to kick them when they were down, but I thought this was an interesting comment from a reader named lucygirl. It was written in response to a statement that CBC requires all its staff to tithe.

I can vouch for this! My mother used to work at that damn school and was called in because they knew that my parents were not tithing the full amount, as required by CBC. My dad felt like he couldn’t tithe from his check, because he needed to support the family, but my mom went ahead and tithed from her CCS check because she had to.

This wasn’t good enough for CBC though. They figured that my parents should be tithing more, since they both were working. Since when is tithing anyone’s business besides between God and the tither? City Business has become so corrupt! You know, my mom was eventually fired from that place (you might be able to figure out who she was) because she went to another church, which was actually somewhat affiliated with CBC.

The church was in the red and PF decided that someone had to be cut from the school. So, who do they pick? A person who devoted many years there and grew up in the church. The school told her that she was picked because they THOUGHT that she would retire soon anyway, and they figured that my parents could afford a lay-off, as compared to some of the other people working there. However, we know that the real reason was because of changing churches, as she had just spoken to the principal not to long before the firing, about the change.

CBC doesn’t realize or even care about the impact that they have on peoples lives. They just beg for people’s money and when they figure they can’t squeeze anymore from them, they just throw them away.

Being first in line for layoffs because of your proximity to retirement or your relative tenure is age discrimination and against the law. If this was the primary reason I got fired from a job I’d be calling a lawyer. Why does the church think that this kind of reasoning is a good idea? What’s worse is that they then guilt people into thinking that objecting to that kind of inequity is somehow “unspiritual” and shows a lack of “unity”. People take take that kind of abuse of power because it’s “the church” and somehow that makes it OK?

    Zech. 7:8-9

8 And the word of the LORD came again to Zechariah: 9 “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. ‘

    Matthew 23:23

23“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. ”

Unfortunately, lucygirl’s story doesn’t surprise me at all. I agree, I’d be looking for a lawyer, too, and filing a wrongful termination suit (based on age discrimination) but most CBC members don’t even consider that they have the option to challenge any decisions that place makes. CBC sets itself up as the authority in all matters and has even forbid members from seeking lawyers when they have been victims of serious crimes at the hand of other members. In lucygirl’s mother’s situation, their rationale for firing her is outrageous because there is no way they know all the variables in familiy’s lives that impact and are impacted by finances and jobs. It’s crazy. Also, CBC employees are “at-will employees” so they don’t even have to give a reason for firing people, probably just minimal notice. The fact that they give these twisted, elaborate rationales is just their attempt to persuade people that they are justified in their decisions. Whatever.

They certainly do use people. It’s horrid. The exploitation, manipulation and other head-games that go on regularly. I could tell you so many stories…but I have to sleep tonight so I won’t stir myself up.

    I’m back…

First of all, I wanted to thank the webmaster for posting my comment. I really hope that some of the leadership from CBC happen to read my message so that they can get a glimpse of what people go through, after being fired from that horrible place.

There are so many stories of people being “let-go” from CBC because they began to attend another church (Bob MacGregor’s, Bob Isabell, or Joel Hjerdstedt’s churches). There are also several incidences of people getting laid-off due to budget cuts, that hapopen to be in their 50’s. One recent lay-off (I probably shouldn’t even mention his name) was Doug Githens. This man, in his 50’s, had worked for CBC for years! (probably about 30 yrs.) Not only that, but he had been a full-time missionary for years at a time, and has additionally spent numerous years serving CBC. Why him??? What is he supposed to do at this age for work? I just don’t know what’s going through the minds of these idiots that run that place. There are many more people and many more stories (that are true), but there’s just not enough space for me to write all about it.

My family actually considered suing CBC after they fired my mom, but she felt guilty at the thought of it. She had been taught for so long that that place was so holy and right, that suing just seemed like an impossible thing for her to do. My poor mom was so depressed for over a year after the incident. How do they expect a person in their 50’s to go out and get a job??? It’s ridiculous. At least one good thing did come from the whole experience and that is that my whole family’s eyes were finally opened and for the first time, we saw what that place was really all about. None of us ever want to step foot into that place again.

Wasn’t there a teacher who got let go because before becoming a Christian they lived an “alternative” lifestyle? And some parents were horrified their children might be harmed by this teacher’s previous lifestyle?

this is quite amazing how I feel when I read through this blog for the first time. I almost want to vomit due to greif I have for all of you that have filled your life with nothing but bitterness, I know God is the only corrector if this horible situation. I knew you who have created this page, and am sadly disapointed to see what you have become. I pray everyday that your bitterness doesn’t get the best of you and destroy your life. I hope someday you’ll find forgiveness for those you tear down, and those you have let down in posting this blog(including a member of my family). It’s almost a joke how little you know of God’s word, how much you’ve twisted what you do know, and how much you’ve allowed satan to twist your heart.
And to this lucy girl, you obviously know nothing of titheing if you feel bad that your parents were being forced to tithe due to their possition on staff. Thats the way it should be!! and though I am no longer a member of cbc, I still attend their conferences, and some functions, and support them greatly as I see the lives they touch through the gifts God has given them.

Although I no long contribute to this blog, it is still very close to my heart. I would love to talk with you, Anonymous, about God’s word, if you are willing. Here are a few questions I have for you.

    What are we bitter about?

What about God’s word have we twisted?

I don’t want to attack you, I’m sure you’re a nice person who just hasn’t heard about the Gospel of Jesus Christ yet.

Email me @ mortonjp14@hotmail.com and we can really discuss this.

I am a nice person, who loves God more than anything. I’m a firm believer in EVERYTHING his word says, including recpect towards authority.something I believe your lacking. and you can’t even defend yourself on this one because Pastor Frank is Authority. I think it is sad that youve waisted your time (not so much anymore) creating something out of pure bitterness when you have a wife and son at home. sad. sad. sad. and have you asked God lately.”should I feel guilty about this” Its not the first time you’ve lashed out. we all know this. Like the time you stole their family photo out of the lobby?? horrible!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Reformed Pope said:

I’m not sure if you are being serious right now, because stealing that photo was hilarious. You should have seen the look on supercops face when PF said to me “Do you know how ridiculous you made our security look?”. Anonymous you should exercise some forgiveness regarding that issue. I believe CBC forgave me after I apologized and followed through with my punishment (8 hours in the front row of church. No I’m not joking here.)

I really don’t want to get in a blog site debate with you over these issues, but I would love a chance to tell you about what God has done for me and my family (by the way I also have a little girl at home and another son on the way). You make some harsh accusations and I think it deserves some one on one follow up.

Obviously though, you were raised to believe that you can’t have an opinion so you are terrified at the thought of having me find out who you are. Honestly, I think this is a great first step for you, but please have the courage to follow through.

I may only know a little bit about God’s word, but I’m really interesting in learning more.

Am I the only one who immediately thought of Cartman screaming, “Respect my Authority. RESPECT MY AUTHORITIE!”?

  20. Reformed Pope said:

What qualifies someone for the “Authority” title? Do you have to be a pastor? Does your church have to be a certain size? What about the denomination, does that effect “Authority” status? Aren’t we all “Authority” to some degree?

Really, shouldn’t we respect everyone? But, we don’t respect everyone do we? No, we only respect those who we think deserve it? Anonymous, your post didn’t respect me or Catalyst and I know that we are the Authority on this blog site, so that would make you a hypocrite wouldn’t it. Damn plank.

Anyhow, I’m still waiting for you to send me an email…

and would you say hi to Bob for me the next time you see him.
