Forward in Unity

Posted on June 30th, 2005 by Reformed Pope into the City Boobie Church category

A few weeks ago, I was studying for the blog by reading the Sunday Comic’s when I felt a tug on my heart. Quickly I wrote down 10 things that I thought God might want us to do with this blog. I presented these 10 things to the Business elders at the next leadership meeting and we all agreed on these 4 steps listed below. We are very excited by what the future will bring, and would like everyone to participate as we move this blog forward. Together we can reach many more “saved” Christians in need of Christ’s love. This campaign is designed to move the church forward/together. Let’s all be willing to go forward and let’s all be willing to go together.

THE FOUR STEPS TO F.U.

Retiring the debt on our present 33 acre blog- $10.00
Fortunately, Blogger provides CBC with a free blog site, so this first goal should be easily accomplished. Catalyst did however, spend $10 on some beer that directly led to the start of this blog and he’s hoping to get reimbursed.

Refurbishing our blog to better serve our congregation, ministries and community - $1.5 million
We were recently reading a blog from a church in Africa and noticed that it had the same template as our blog and instantly we thought “When a blog from a 3rd world country has the same template as your American Dream blog, it’s time to change templates”

Reaching more churched and saved people through strategic communication and evangelism - $600,000
Our sarcasm is known throughout the city, but only a handful know the sarcasm as a City Business Church. How do we let people know who we are? What about the use of television ads, radio, direct mail, and evangelistic events targeted to reach our community? Connecting to our community through sarcastic small group materials, sarcastic divorce recovery, eating disorders classes (those are always serious), sarcastic budget counseling and many more sarcastic interest ministries takes a major investment of money, time and resources.

Regionally expand our ministries by starting a third City Business Church blog on the West Side - $10.00
We already have Citybiblewatch.com and Citybiblewatchespanol.com, but we desire to conduct multiple blogs in chosen regional locations 1 click from our present location. This extends our total ministry to other locations through creative and strategic means. We have great ministry resources to reach this goal.

How can you get involved?

step one - begin with a simple prayer
Begin now by asking the Lord how He would like you to be involved in F.U.. A good place to start is with this prayer, "Lord what do you want to do through me to accomplish Your will for City BusinessChurch?"

step two - surrender to God’s direction
Next, take an inventory of your assets and your lifestyle. Determine what you can give above your regular tithes and offerings…

Ok, this post is dragging on a little bit to much. If you want to learn about the real Forward Together campaign click here http://www.citybiblechurch.org/Content/ContentCT.asp?P=188

Oh, that’s just wonderful. $5,000,000 dollars being spent on CBC campus, and $600,000 on evangelism. Priorities, priorities.

I also purchased a bottle of Merlot from Safeway for $4.95, and I was kind of hoping to get reimbursed for that as well.

But no rush. First things first, We must retire the debt. And by retire the debt, I mean drink heavily.

You know, if you had purchased your merlot at Trader Joe’s you could have saved a buck. That kind of wasteful spending is making me reconsider my contribution to your campaign…

Save a buck at Trader Joe’s? Don’t you mean 3 bucks? Haven’t you people ever heard of 2-buck Chuck?

……oops, I mean…..the Episcopalians sent me to the market for communion wine and that’s how I know…..yeah, that’s right. [hee hee] I recommend the cabernet sauvignon, myself….it goes well with chocolate. ;)

So, to assist in retiring the debt, can I contribute a portion of waht I normally drink, or does it need to be over and above? I want to make sure I receive my blessing.

wow…that link you listed is pretty disturbing. I think your strategic approach is way more logical.

2 buck chuck is now $2.99 - at least where we live. I stand corrected, though - you could have saved $2 and that kind of waste is just asinine.

    Let’s call a spade a spade:
    * the $600k listed as being for outreach” is really for marketing.
    * the $750k listed as being for an additional campus is also really about marketing and attempting to locate where pockets are (stereotypically) deeper (CBC doesn’t have the corner on this idea; one of my previous churches asked me to plant a church on the west-side in order to generate revenue for the main church on the east-side; needless to say, we said NO).

At any rate, the budget just reflects what we already know to be true, which is that CBC’s priorities are completely screwed up. Although, given the effectiveness of typical CBC “evangelism” efforts, maybe we should be grateful that there isn’t more money allocated to that. ;)

BTW, I think TJ’s Charles Shaw wine is $2 in CA and $3 in OR. IMHO, it’s great for cooking & the Shiraz is pretty drink-able. I’m with Jiminy, red wine & chocolate is the BEST combo.

    FFTM,

I get the feeling you might be a kindred spirit. :) You’re the second person to recommend the Shiraz, and I’ll definitely give it a whirl when I’m in CA for the next couple weeks. Alas, here in CO, there is no Trader Joe’s…it’s like a barren wasteland, really.

Do you know Terra Nostra organic chocolate? The dark with raisins and pecans is particularly nice….on its own or with 2-buck Chuck.

Jiminy, the Shiraz is a must-try.
I haven’t tried Terra Nostra, but will find some soon. Sharffenberger is my absolute favorite chocolate.

    Have fun in CA!!
