Hurricane Katrina is God’s Punishment

Posted on September 21st, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

You new it would happen. Pastor Don Feder is claiming Hurricane Katrina is God’s judgement on America for its sin.

I tend to think the hurricane was God’s judgement on America for failing TO FORTIFY THE LEVY’S. But what do I know.

Catalyst you’re so silly. How could you confuse human apathy and oversight for the mighty wrath of God?

Personally, my only complaint is God’s wrath has been awfully boring lately. In the Old testament His wrath meant cool things like a worldwide flood, raining down fire and brimstone on the sinful, or having lions eat smart-mouthed kids. Now all He’s got left in the tank is using normal weather patterns to flood a below-sea level city with inadequate storm protection? Come on.

I feel very sorry for anyone who subscribes to this “God’s punishment” bit. I’d hate to think that God is omnipotent and omniscient, but just doesn’t care about innocent people…or just has guns that are too big and aim that is too poor. And, if it could happen to all the millions of innocent people in New Orleans, what’s to stop it from happening to you?

Yes, we did know someone would say it eventually, I suppose. Alas.

Just because a preacher says it doesn’t mean its not true, however we have to look at a particular preacher’s (any man or woman) track record on interpreting the ways of God. Unfortunetly, a lot of the time these assumptions made by ministers or armchair theologians are wrong. I read the posting called “the death of the church” that someone posted on one of the prior comments on this site. Reading it had a lot of thought provoking points to it. Not so much that this is God’s punishment but that its almost necessary for these things to happen. I won’t ruin it for you. Go read it at

As far as the levy’s are concerned. What a lot of the news organizations are failing to mention is that to build the levy’s large and strong enough to withhold Katrina, it would have taken 20+ years to construct. However the goverment did know about the threat about 8 years ago. But that wouldn’t have done a bit of help becuase it was too late. Sorry to ramble. That is all.

Who really cares if it’s God’s judgement or if it’s something else! It’s done now it’s time for a humbled city (yes it has problems) to rebuild, hopefully with a renewed vision and purpose. All I can say is I hope the city holds a different mindset (yes I’ve been there) when they rebuild.
