Letters to the editor

Homosexuality is a sin as is any sexuality outside of marriage. Don Feder is not a Christian. He does not believe Christ is the Messiah (who, by the way, would forgive all repentant homosexuals and then command them to “go and sin no more”). Don Feder is a Jew.

  1. cat: well met.

As long as we’re exploring Don Feder, I thought I’d provide a quote from him (see http://www.donfeder.com, “About Me”):

“I’m to the right of Sharon on Zionism, to the right of Pat Buchanan on immigration and Americanism, to the right of Mother Angelica on abortion, to the right of Chuck Heston on Second-Amendment rights, and generally make the legendary Atilla look like a limousine liberal.”

And that’s just a little sample.

Feder’s choices and professed views about himself seem to designate him as a textbook-quality megalomaniac. In my humble opinion, he’s a wannabe blowhard who needs to learn to play in his own league. I’m really quite saddened by the fact that someone like him can make a living by being fond of his own opinion and having a yen for pissing people off.

Not only is he an asshole, he makes lots of money being one. Good grief, what’s wrong with the world?

Nothing. That’s the way the world usually works: bullies make power plays against people too unpopular, too weak, or too uninformed to fight back, assembling groups to go after them if they can, and always with an eye on the main chance to make a ton of money doing it.

    Rambo Action Jesus!!! strikes again.

As Jiminy would have it, in a perfectly blissful communist society, all blowhards would be equal. Sounds like someone’s jealous. Jiminy’s fond of her own opinion and has a “yen” for pissing people off too… but unlike Feder, she has to do it for free. Maybe that’s why she hates capitalism so.

  4. Yes Jesus was a Jew. I only brought up Feder’s Jewish faith with respect to his being lambasted for not expressing Christian love, or the love of Christ.

Sorry, but point not well met.

  5. Anonymous,

Gimcrack? Please. Your mom does crack.

Are you the same anonymous who decided that I hated capitalism/espoused communism before (meaning that you’re the author of the “piehole” comment on the New Urbanism thread)? If so, let me just take a moment to say that you didn’t even bother to respond to my pointing out that you don’t even seem to have an accurate idea of what communism and capitalism actually are, so I can’t really bring myself to be distressed that you’re connecting me to either one. Your tail’s already between your legs, honey, so if I were you, I’d choose a new insult. McCarthyism went out with poodle skirts and bobby socks.

I don’t hate capitalism. I just think the American public can do better than Don Feder…and I’m saddened that they don’t.

And, just to throw another wrench in your immature collection of petty, ill-thought-out insults, you should know that I am in a line of work where stating my opinion (though not about political/philosophical issues, it’s true…that’s more just a hobby, so I’m not really expecting cash flow….) *is* my livelihood. I’m a teacher. The difference between me and Don Feder is that I choose to stay within my sphere of influence, I’m doing my damnedest every day to improve people’s lives through my work, and (just to be fair) I don’t get paid as much as he does.

Teachers and journalists (people who express opinions for money) have a deep obligation to society to be careful what they say, to see that they are informed and truthful, and to work to help people’s minds become more open and aware. Otherwise, they should call themselves what they are: entertainment…and in Feder’s case, trashy entertainment at that.

No one can make anyone else responsible for this kind of self-examination in a free society (and, surprise, surprise, I’m a fan of free society)…but it’s really too bad that Feder isn’t grownup enough to choose it for himself. It’s also too bad that people put up with it when they ought to be demanding so much better for themselves. That’s all.
