With CBC announcing their plans to launch 9 or so new stores, what message does that send to the other local pastors?
“Attention Bob MacGregor, Senior pastor of City Harvest Church in Vancouver, you’re not doing a good enough job. We’re taking overâ€
“Attention Ted Roberts, Senior pastor of East Hill Foursquare Church in Gresham, you’re not doing a good enough job. We’re taking overâ€
“Attention Ray Cotton, Senior pastor of New Hope Community Church in Clackamas, You’re not doing a good enough job. We’re taking overâ€
“Attention Dr. James Martin, Senior pastor of Mr. Olivet Baptist Church in North Portland, You’re not doing a good enough job. We’re taking over… actually… no… we won’t be going anywhere near North Portland. Carry on. â€
Seriously, is this the formula set up by Christ? Is this the way an “A2†(Acts 2) church would act? Did Paul go around acting like Wal-Mart and pushing existing churches out of “business
I don’t think so. Shame on you City Bible Church, shame on you. I for one would like to treat them like a large box store and start a petition to “Keep City Bible Out of Vancouverâ€. I may not be a local resident, but I’ll be the first to sign.
KEEP CITY BIBLE CHURCH OUT OF VANCOUVER, WA

I just love petitions
Petitions always get interesting. Remember the one that was passed around to get Mr. Paulson fired as school principal. If I remember correctly, all the Morton boys signed that one.
Fun times!!!
There is over a million people in the Portland Metro area. According to the census only 30% participate in a weekly religious service. (this includes non-christian services) This tells me there is a lot of room and maybe a need for more churches.
That figure tells me there’s something missing that causes 70% of the people not to go. What would 7 more CBC clones bring to the table to attract those that don’t currently go to church when there are already hundreds of churches in the area? Lack of church choices is not what keeps people in their beds on Sunday mornings.
I was going to sign, then I remembered I don’t go to church anymore.
So even though they’re looking at a building three blocks away from me, I guess I don’t really care.
As long as they don’t take over my Starbucks.
Oh, and somebody give fezzik a raise.
I’ll sign it. But then I’ll sign pretty much anything that promises to get someone in trouble.
And agreed about Fezzik. He’s on a roal. With apologies to Ms. Crickett, he brings the best comments.
Roll, homeschooler roll.
hahaha… ahhh, i am the worst speller…
“What would 7 more CBC clones bring to the table to attract those that don’t currently go to church…â€
Let’s see, according to my CBC quick reference guide….
1.City Bible Church’s recognized “brandâ€
2. Frank Damazio
3. Buzzwords like “Generationâ€, “Harvestâ€, and “Simulcastâ€.
4. Plasma Screen TV’s
5. More jobs for “Yes Menâ€

ah, yes, another (in)famous Morton petition. I was starting to wonder when we were going to see another one of those. Anyway, keep CBC out of Vancouver? I thought CBC was already in Vancouver in the form of Bob MacGregor. After all, was that not a CBC-sanctioned church split, um, I mean, church plant? Was Bob not sent out with all the pomp and circumstance of a conquering hero? Except maybe this hero was expected to fall flat on his face – isn’t it just a bummer when people don’t do what they’re told? Anyway, knowing how much luck you had with those petitions back in the day, I’m curious to see how this one turns out. Keep us posted (hee, hee. get it? posted?)
It’s kinda funny, the last time we had a petition it was Pastor Bob who yelled at us. This time were on his side.
Bob, I’m there for you.
I don’t think Bob really yelled at us last time. Secretly, I think he knew we were right but we just went about it the wrong way. It definitely got some people looking and got some things changed though. I have to say that I’d probably do it again if put in the same situation.
Bob didn’t yell. He just acted dissapointed. Whatever.
I do know they told us all that Mr. Paulson was ordained by God, and then promptly fired him the following year.
Meaning, I guess God’s HR Director made a bad hire.
“Meaning, I guess God’s HR Director made a bad hire.”
Yes, and he did it again the next year when he hired Tim Bottler, the PE major, as Paulson’s replacement.
Sparrow, I 100% agree (although his name is Ted). Just goes to show that being a “yes man” is more important than having training and other qualifications that might actually equip someone for the job. I don’t think that arrangement worked out for anyone, did it?
