Pat’s Power

Posted on November 11th, 2005 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

Since every blog I visit has posted this article about Pat Robertson, I suppose we might as well get in the act as well.

Apparently, Pat thinks God will judge the town of Dover, Pennsylvania for voting the wrong way. Must be nice to be Pat.

And here via The Moderate Voice , a pastor blogs his thoughts about Pat’s comments. The post is titled:

Sorry, Pat I just don’t buy that

The best quote is here:

The God I know in my life and the God I preach from the pulpit looks nothing like the God I hear Pat Robertson talking about. My God is the Beloved and does everything out of and for love, not out of or for control. Control has to do with certainty. The God I see in the Bible is the God who is always surprising us with grace.

good times… good times…

He’s just an idiot he and makes me ashamed to be a Christian.

Sad isn’t it really? People are offended by him before they ever get a chance to be offended by the Cross.

And furthermore I am pretty sure he doesn’t know the same God that I know.

I hope Pat only drinks regular-flavored metamucil for his fiber needs because God will judge those lukewarm people that buy the orange-flavored kind. Don’t even get me started on those idol-worshipping prune eaters….

    Fear the Curse -

Why does he make you ashamed to believe Christ is our saviour? Because you don’t like him, you resent the truth. Interesting comment. Maybe you should be ashamed of him. Who cares what Pat robertson thinks. The fact of the matter is that God does show infinite grace, but at times he judges. He’s the only one who has the right to. Pat Robertson is in no position to understand the mind of God or make comments such as this, but then again who cares. By talking about Pat R. we are giving him more visibility to the world - that Christianity is ridiculous. Lets just take the message from the Bible forward and be the true voice for Christianity.

    This just in from Pat:

    Fez…

    I love you man!

Now can I have your orange-flavored Metamucil? These raw psyllium husks are a killer….I’m pretty much keeping the Bean-o company in business already.

We have to speak out when someone like Pat R. opens his trap like this. Christianity isn’t ridiculous, just way too many “Christians” are. He doesn’t make me ashamed to be a Christian; I’m ashamed that he, unfortunately, represents Christianity to the rest of the world.

    Dear “Anonymous”,

Clearly you mistook my sarcasam. So let me say this more clearly, I am ashamed to be associated with anyone like Pat Robertson. Unfortunately “most” unchurched, non-christians don’t understand that people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are off their rocker and don’t truly represent the mind of Christ and what it means to be a Christian. So when you say that you are a “born again Christian” they assume you are from their camp. This is what makes me ashamed, that Christianity has come down to that. I think that it’s getting to the point that most people don’t think of Christians as followers of Christ they think of them as “people like Pat Robertson.” Thus I am ashamed of that kind of Christianity.

And what sort of “truth” is it that you are supposing that I resent? Pat Robertson’s truth? You bet. He doesn’t have the monopoly on Christianity, just the right wingers that haven’t realized yet that he has lost his mind. Before you judge me know this, I think he used to be a good guy. I used to watch the 700 club every night with my parents growing up. However, instead of representing the love of Christ to the world he spews harsh apocolyptic decrees about God’s judgement to a world that already has a distrust of Christianity and Christian leaders. And it’s easy to say “Take the message of the Bible forward, and be the true voice” but Pat Robertson has a bigger megaphone than any of us. We couldn’t possibly give Pat any more or less visability than he already has just by talking about him. I feel like I am constantly battling the misconceptions about Jesus that people Pat and Jerry put out there.

So I am not ashamed of Christ or the message of the cross, but I feel ashamed to a be Christian represented by Pat Robertson and the like on most days, and especially so on days when he makes comments like that.

So aggree with anonymous #2, we MUST speak out when somone like Pat R. opens his trap.
