Playing the Cooler

I find Evangeline Lily helps calm people down. Well, she makes me smile at least.
People are getting pretty fired up in the comments section of this blog. I, of course, have no problem with this. In fact, I find it amusing. But the comments are feeling intense, so I am going to switch gears and blog about music. Hopefully, this will get everyone to relax a bit.
Apparently there’s some blogger running around the internet tagging other bloggers. If you are tagged it means you have a writing assignment. Recently, I was tagged by Couv Operator. To be honest, if it was anyone else, I probably would have ignored the tag. But Couv Operator is my political blogger by proxy. If you want my take on the current political scene read his blog. It’s great, and as such, I’ll do the assignment.
Here’s the assignment: List seven songs you are into right now.
Here are my songs:
Perfect Situation - Weezer - The music video to this song features Elisha Cuthbert. Enough Said.
Wordless Chorus - My Morning Jacket - I am not sure what the song is about. But the "wordless chorus" is amazing.
Hide and Seak - Imogen Heap - Not since Take Six performed I L-O-V-E You, have I enjoyed an accepella performace so much.
Testify - Kanye West - Say what you want about Kanye, but his Gold Digger Album is amazing. It also includes this gem of a lyric "Testify. Come up in the spot looking extra fly." I wish some preacher would shout that out during testimony time.
Inside and Out - Feist - The only woman who could make a Bee Gees song better. Best.Cover.Ever.
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes - Good Love Song.
You’re Beautiful - James Blunt - A guy sees a beautiful girl on the subway, but knows he’ll never have her. Yep, pretty much sums up my life.
As always, thanks so much for reading our blog… and remember …good times… good times…

Catalyst, My Morning Jacket is a good choice - Check out thier album Tennessee Fire. Regarding “Wordless Chorus” - good song, could do without the Michael Jackson style ending.
Check out Sons and Stars by Broken Social Scene
Homesick - by Kings of Convenience
Unmade Bed - Sonic Youth
Banquet - Block Party
Lay Lady Lay - Magnet (Great Cover)
Same Ol’ Road - Dredg
Hell is Chrome and/or Theologians - Wilco
Andvari - Sigur Ros

Crazy was actually written by Willie Nelson, but immortalized by Patsy. Willie sings a pretty great version himself though.

Into the Woods is actually my favorite song off My Morning Jacket’s new album. I’ll have to check out Tenessee Fire.
As for the other suggestions
Wilco’s - Summer Teeth is in my Top Five Albums Ever.
I prefer Bloc Party’s - So Here We Are
and Kings of Convenience is great as well. That whole album is good.
Rock: The Blower’s Daughter is fantastic. Have you listened to the last song, “I look to my Eskimo Friend.” I sing that sentence all the time.

East from West -Denison Witmer - Yea I know starbucks loves him too.
Devil in the Details - Bright Eyes - I don’t know why but I can’t stop listening to this guy
We both go down together - The Decembrists - There local, they opened for the pixies, and they sing about pirates need I say more.
Hot love on a free love highway ( She’s not Dead )- David Byrne - Maybe the Catchiest song ever to hit British airways.

It’s funny how this tagging thing works. I’m normally not one to respond to such things either, but I was asked to do so by someone I respected, and here we are. So you’re like the fourth in line of people who loathe such activities but did it because someone you respected asked you to. I think there’s a lesson here. And it probably involves Amway.
I mean Quixtar. Which is so not Amway I should be flogged for even thinking it was.
Either way, thanks for the props. Now if the rest of the world would just give me their proxy, we could all live in peace.
Except Sean Hannity. Who would be forced to French O’Reilly for five minutes every night on global television for our amusement.

Like your taste fedup95! Sad to see Elliot go… but i think he wanted too. What kind of world is this for a man like that?
Do you like “Rose Parade” by Elliot Smith?
I had the chance to be in the Rose Parade as a kid and my band wore red shirts and white pants. It rained (PDX! of course) and we ended up marching in pink by the middle of the parade.
look at all those websites… thats like an hour of entertainment right there.
February 16th, 2006 at 3:26 pm
Elliot’s entire either/or album is fantastic.

Well as the resident Metal head, I feel it behooves me to chime in:
Lateralus - Tool: One of the most inspirational and heavily layered songs in music.
Right Were It Belongs - Nine Inch Nails: Really mild instrumentals shifts the focus onto the Descartesian lyrics.
Acoustic #3 - Goo Goo Dolls: Very touching.
Outside - Staind: A more realistic view of love in my opinion.
Pushit - Tool: A very vivid and remarkably accurate depiction of an abuse victim.
Darkness - Disturbed: An uncharacteristically slow song that really displays Davids talent both vocally and lyrically. Especially meaningful during lapses of faith.
The Pet - A Perfect Circle: Great political song/antiestablishment song.
“I’ll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I’ll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I’ll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
They’re one in the same
I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself”
