Testify, come up in the spot looking extra fly.

It’s Testimony Time. Here’s a recent email I received.

Greetings and Salutations:

I have no idea what PBC or CBC is and from what I’ve read I don’t  want to know. At least not from an up close and personal manner. I was on the hunt for "things" trying to get my thoughts onto anything other than what I was thinking. And I happened upon your blog.

Well…..I no longer feel so bad about my current situation. I hate to put it this way but I have found solace in the fact that mine is not near as bad as yours. This has nothing to do with the blog but I would like to spill.

It’s really simple and short. i was involved with a church for over 13 years. I was involved with the worship team, supported the pastor and the church in time money and ministry.

So imagine my dismay , when reflecting on all events I realized that unless I had extreme talent or a hefty wallet I would always be on the outside looking in. I left the church very quietly one Sunday and never went back. To this day no one from the church has attempted to contact me. That was about a year ago. Can you say "crushed heart"?

There are many other things that I have  now begun to look at that I wouldn’t let myself believe before. Things to do with accountability ……financial, spiritual and personal.  The thing that sucks is that I feel as if I have wasted the last 13+ years in a dead end "job".

I guess it was just as much my fault as anybody else’s for staying. But I was hoping it would get better.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Hi Scott, All I can say is, "Better late then never!".

Kudos to you for having the strength to question your situation. I pray that the holy spirit inside you will work in your life and that your spirit will be comforted and that you will continue to mature and grow in understanding of your faith and "what it is", exactly.

    :)

Remember, that at the end-of-the-day, it was Christ who died for you, and by his grace, we live. Nothing less, and nothing more. The rest is fluff.

Thanks for sharing Scott. I now feel better about only having spent 10 years where I was. “Related” would have got you a space at my old church.

Scott - I feel for you, man. Our stories are very similar - can’t tell you how many musicians (former worship leader types) I’ve heard the same story from. :^(

All I can say is, keep up the singing or playing or song-writing, whatever worship gift the Father gave you to use - you really only have an audience of one when you are worshipping - and He’s your biggest fan, as I am sure, you are His.

One of my good musician friends, just moved to SC, on the coast - a real brother, with 4-5 CDs of material on his site in 128K mp3 format … David Benrexi - at http://www.mydaddylovesme.org … please check out “Eyes of the World” and “Cheerful Giver” on the Weekend At Grandma’s CD … they might put a smile on your face.

Scott although people have let youy down and misrepresented Christ, He has not. May these words by Spurgeon comfort and reassure you.

THE JAR OF FLOUR WAS NOT SPENT, NEITHER DID THE JUG OF OIL BECOME EMPTY, ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF THE LORD THAT HE SPOKE BY ELIJAH.
    1 Kings 17:16

Consider the faithfulness of divine love. It is clear that this woman had daily necessities. She had to feed her son and herself in a time of famine; and now, in addition, the prophet Elijah was also to be fed. But though the need was threefold, the supply was not spent, for it was constant. Each day she made withdrawals from the jar, but each day it remained the same. You, dear reader, have daily necessities, and because they come so frequently, you are apt to fear that the jar of flour will one day be empty, and the jug of oil will fail you. Rest assured that, according to the Word of God, this shall not be the case. Each day, though it bring its trouble, it shall also bring its help; and though you should live longer than Methuselah, and your needs should be as many as the sands of the seashore, yet God’s grace and mercy will last through all your necessities, and you will never know a real lack. For three long years, in this widow’s days, the heavens never saw a cloud, and the stars never wept a holy tear of dew upon the wicked earth: famine and desolation and death made the land a howling wilderness, but this woman was never hungry but always joyful in abundance. So it will be with you. You will see the sinner’s hope perish, for he trusts in himself; you will see the proud Pharisee’s confidence crumble, for he builds his hope upon the sand; you will even see your own plans blown apart, but you will discover that your daily needs are amply supplied. Better to have God for your guardian than the Bank of England for your possession. You might spend the wealth of the nations, but you can never exhaust the infinite mercies of God. 1 Matthew 25:34 2 1 John 3:2

may I directed your attention to a comment I made Feb 27 at 5:31, on the “you might be a dougie” post. It’s at the bottom.

    Enjoy responsibly.

May I suggest a new way of working with churches Scott? From now on, if you are using your talents and energy for anything, set some tangible goals. The churches like to use “discernment” and they like to say all these terms and what-not that they all use. The bottom line, in my opinion, is that if you feel you wasted your time than that says to me that you actually have some desires, or achievements you wish to accomplish. Anybody who enters into working for a church is going to end up hurt unless they genuinely never want to make a decision for themself. Now that you have all this experience, don’t let yourself be dragged into the same thing with another church. Write your own thoughts down on a piece of paper. Get to a piano and start wailing on the MoFo. You may be surprised what you have in you Scott. I’m glad you found this online church buddy.
