Acquire the Fire

My brother Jesse just forwarded me
a link to THE.BEST.NEWSARTICLE.EVER! (Sorry Zach.) Last weekend, there was an Aquire the Fire rally at the Portland Coliseum. And the Portland Mercury sent out a reporter to cover the event. It was no Generation Unleashed, but a good time nonetheless. The reporter makes some incredible observations. (I'll be honest, I wish I had written the article.) Also, as my brother Jesse mentions, the pictures are too good. As always, I challenge you to read the whole thing, but let me share a paragraph to whet your appetite:
"What does it look like to endure in the real world?" Johnson asks. "Let me give you an example. Ladies—one of the things that the world wants you to do is to dress a certain way, and they want you to buy their clothes. And they want you to show off your bodies so that men will no longer look at you with respect. You've got to say, 'I'm going to represent Christ, because I'm a follower.' I'm not saying you can't dress beautifully, because God wants you to be beautiful. You can dress ravishingly gorgeous. But here's the difference between someone who's in the world and someone who's a follower of Jesus Christ: Someone in the world dresses trashy, a follower of Christ dresses classy." The audience goes wild. Several teen girls write this down.

We all know I think Zach writes the best articles. But this is really hilarious.
Who wouldn’t want to be a Christian?

Profound.

Agreed. Yes, that is a very profound statement.
These rallies make me sick. They’ve tried so hard to be relevantly hip that it’s made them completely irrelevant. Just another day in the bubble….

I can’t wait for Joyce Meyer to come in 8 weeks. Can’t WAIT.

I Googled Joyce and cam up with this. Yeah Baby!!! Screw the next life. It’s all about this one.
I spent a good three years trying to find a church home where I wasn’t immediately set upon by the MLM jackals. It’ll be interesting to see how many of those folks show up for a Joyce Crusade.

Went to a Joyce Meyer conference in Rockford, Illinois in 2000 - my wife wanted to go. It was at an AG church - super church I guess you’d call it by the size … the church had their Gestapo out busting people who took bottled water into the sanctuary - after all, it was clearly marked above the doors “NO FOOD OR DRINK” … they’d just carpeted it I guess and were serious about keeping it good as new … guess the only thing allowed in the sanctuary was ‘living water’ (though none was to be found), oh, and the bottle of Evian (?) Joyce was drinking from. Hmmm … that’s strangely symbolic …
She opened the session with an impressive prophetic word - it’s going to be all right
… I guess it was true - no one died of thirst …
But the thing that prompted me to get up and leave, after I about hurled on their precious carpet, is when she said (I swear):
IF that old dead church you are going to isn’t feeding you, and you are being fed by my ministry, then you OWE your tithe to ME!
The only thing I care to remember about the whole conference, is it was the first time I heard the song “Revival” (Robin Mark Revival in Belfast).

we can get joyce on satellite tv here in france. the classic part about it is it’s overdubbed in arabic so the lady sounds like she’s barking or something at times.

Back to the Acquire the Fire original post…everyone look at that picture of the speaker, the “darker-haired Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell.” Doesn’t that picture make you giggle? No, seriously, look at his face.

He obviously takes his role as “the Christian Zach Morris” very seriously.
He’s also behind bars, and there is an eerie shadowy figure coming up behind him. ….this is not going to end well, I fear.

I also really like the girl in the pink coat. I wonder if she is home-schooled?
March 22nd, 2006 at 10:40 am
Probably not. This girl appears to have friends. A homeschooler would be all alone with hands stretched to the Heavens.

You would know
