Praise Report

Do you remember Pam? She's the one who wrote the article in the Oregonian called Ethics & values/Pastors get into tattoos

Well, listen to this. I just received word that a heroin addict read Pam's article, called Imago Dei Community Church, and got in touch with one of the pastors from the article. The guy's in the hospital and so the pastor went to see him. He prayed to receive Christ that night and is now making many friends at Imago Dei.

Imagine that.

What is this? A positive blog?

JP seriously, you need to re-think your mission as a blogger.

    Sure, it’s a positive blog.

But it’s also a slap in the face to conservative Christians who think “marking your body” is a sin.

Hey, right wing bastards, how does that smell?

I would never go to a church who’s name I can not pronounce.

But since we’re being serious, one thing I infer from that news RP, is that his religious indoctrination about his tattoo may have been an obstacle to him turning to Christ earlier. And so, to him, perhaps the article simply said “come as you are” … \o/

That has to be the most insidious thing about religion, that it conveys the need to get “cleaned up” before a person comes to Christ, or that there are things wrong with us that even Christ would refuse to forgive. As often as preachers preach against sin from the pulpit, what assurance does a sinner have of being received and accepted by Jesus if those who claim to be His ambassadors turn sinners away before they even knock on the door?

It is just a sad indictment of the church at large that people think of the church as a country club rather than a hospital. Praise God that this man is coming into the body of Christ, but its unfortunate that an article in the Oregonian had to point out a church that would welcome tattooed people.
