Meet and Greet
Posted on May 31st, 2006 by catalyst into the Uncategorized categorySorry for taking so long to post this. I have been on vacation with the fam this past week.
But thanks to everyone who showed up at Kells on Thursday. It was wonderful meeting all of you. JP and I brought a camera to take pictures, but in typical Morton fashion, we forgot to take any. …oh well, next time, I promise.
I still have over 200 work emails still to get through, so I can't post much here. But again, let me say I felt honored to meet each of you. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. It was nice to be among friends.

It was great to see everybody. Especially Pam, Fez, and the boys. During the downtime here’s a little reading for you all. Thoughts?

b9000, that’s a pretty extreme website, so I have no idea how accurate its characterization of the “Christian” video game is. If even 1/2 of it is accurate, though, how scary. Someone please tell me that it doesn’t really offer options to convert or kill non-fundamentalist Christians…that would be me (the “moderate, mainstream Christian”). Also, if even 1/2 the allegations about Warren’s goals are true, then he’s just another example of someone with a big mouth misrepresenting Christ and more interested in establishing his own kingdom than the kingdom of God. They’re a dime a dozen.

I found another preview of that game from a mainstream video game site here. Based on those previews, I’d say the game is a lame attempt to cash in on the Left Behind brand name at best. If it’s anything like the books, it will be a cheesy, drawn out story that the authors milk into 11 more
booksgames at 20 bucks a pop.It doesn’t really shock me that much that the game’s backers are working churches to market the game because that seems to be standard business practice for most of the “mainstream” Christian products today. The big box churches are a large, receptive consumer base that would love some “wholesome” alternatives to Grand Theft Auto. Why spend 50 dollars for a game made by Godless heathens when you can line the pockets of a mega-church?
I really don’t know too much about Rick Warren specifically, but just reading his website and a few others gives me the impression that he likes to use a lot of sugar coated theology. Judging from the size of his church and his admitted emphasis on business and marketing, I’d say he’s running a really great Walmart-esque church. Does his Jesus have a big, yellow smiley face and no health insurance?

Back to the main topic, it was great to see B9000, RP, catalyst, and the rest of the bloggers. Hopefully we can do it again soon.
