The Blunder from Down Under
Posted on June 8th, 2006 by catalyst into the Uncategorized categoryI received the following email yesterday:
I know this is a day late, but I really didn't think there would be a point in sending it yesterday, being the end of the world and all. Anyways, a little bird told me that a certain prominent father-in-law of a certain senior pastor recently completed a book on the end times and Revelations doctrine. The best part is that his publisher called back after reviewing the book and told him he absolutely had to make changes to the book. Why, you may ask? Because his book was 666 pages long.
(this may be common knowledge, but if it isn't I thought it was funny enough to pass along)
That's a funny tidbit. Not sure if it's true, but I never let the Truth get in the way of a good story.
I thought about writing something on Tuesday since it was 6/6/6, which as everyone knows is Satan's anniversary. But here's the deal. It's not really 6/6/6. It's 6/6/2006. And while Satan's not the smartest person in the world, I think even he (I'm assuming Satan's a guy) understands that 6/6/2006 is not 6/6/6. I suspect he's as annoyed with American marketers as I am.

“end times…doctrine” is one of the biggest oxymorons of Christianity today. Unless you’re dead or the Apocalypse is currently in progress (whoops! wasn’t it yesterday?) then obsessing about it will only hurt your walk with Christ and your testimony to those who have yet to believe.
Personally, if I were writing such a book, and it numbered 666 pages, I’d take it as a sign I got it right.
Here’s an idea for a book title: “Changing your community” It could be about how to get Christians involved in things like homeless shelters, community education centers, visiting & providing for the elderly and shutins, being part of a big brother/sister program, etc.
On second thought, no one would want to read it…

Several years ago when I was on the cusp of leaving the IC, I was really guilt-laden and in fear of going to hell.
Somehow, I stumbled across a Yahoo eGroup dedicated to house church discussion and joined - since I was still in the IC, I lurked awhile and wrote the moderator privately who encouraged me to post … finally I posted a message about feeling led to leave the IC …
It was message # 666
Talk about freak out!

I’ll take two - one for my bookshelf and the other to carry to church with my Bible to look spiritual. Will you sell them with notes and highlighted sections and a worn cover? I would pay extra for that.

444- have you done the house church thing? There were articles in our local rag saying that this was one of the largest moves within Christianity. We have friends who host a house church 2 doors down from my inlaws. Everybody complains about them parking on the street.
Care to share any interesting experiences with house church if you have them.
By the way, nice to see you smiling again

The world was on to us - Yesterday, I watched Fox news count down the seconds to 6/6/06 6:06 and 6 seconds.
Do you really think Satan would destroy the world with everyone watching?
Shoot, missed the celebration in Hell, MI too!

Nah, no time, too late. Believe it or not, was on Fox and Friends. Fair and balanced, the first choice in morning cable news programming.
