FYI - Third Awakening is Coming

Posted on September 13th, 2006 by catalyst into the Uncategorized category

I'm going to be traveling a lot for work the next couple of weeks. And I'm also training to run in the Portland Marathon October 1st. So blogging will be light for the next month or so. However, I'm working on trying to get a guest blogger on the site, and we'll see how that goes.

Let me leave you with a link from an article in the Washington Post discussing President Bush's belief in a Third Awakening. (Thanks to Chris for sending this in.)

Key quote:

"A lot of people in America see this as a confrontation between good and evil, including me," Bush said during a 1 1/2 -hour Oval Office conversation on cultural changes and a battle with terrorists that he sees lasting decades. "There was a stark change between the culture of the '50s and the '60s — boom — and I think there's change happening here," he added. "It seems to me that there's a Third Awakening."

Considering President Bush's track record in predictions, (We'll be greeted as liberators. Who knew the Levees were going to break. Iraq has nuclear weapons.) I'm pretty sure we'll be facing the next Apocalypse.

Thankfully we’re facing the next election too.

What scares me about that is, the presumption that America=Good.

A few years ago, I took emails from several so-called ‘prophetic’ email lists; one internationally recognized ‘prophet’ said he heard the Spirit say while watching GW Bush sworn in, “LAST president”. Not long after, another ‘e-prophet’ said that it wouldn’t be Bush who would usher in national revival (3rd awakening), but that Bush would set the stage for the NEXT president who would “usher in” national revival. Wasn’t long after I ‘unsubbed’ those silly prophetic e-lists.

Still, I wonder if Bush is a subscriber, or someone in his circle of advisors? Because that kind of statement - about ‘national revival’ or a ‘3rd awakening’, sounds like the kind of crap those prophetic e-lists peddle.

First of all, Bush Jr’s perspective is so skewed and unrealistic that he has lost all perspective on reality. Has he even met a non-vetted, non-fundraising Republican since 2000?

I hope the Bush/Republican 2000-2006 federal track record will lead to an American awakening, but not the Third Awakening the Religious Right is seeking.

Unscrupulous: “Still, I wonder if Bush is a subscriber, or someone in his circle of advisors? Because that kind of statement - about ‘national revival’ or a ‘3rd awakening’, sounds like the kind of crap those prophetic e-lists peddle.”

The scariest aspect of Bush Jr.’s faith is that he has none. At least not in the future. He believes the End Times are near or here, so long-term planning is not a priority. Global warming, environmental conservation, fiscal planning, protecting Social Security, investing in youth, risking peace, fighting for human and civil rights, promoting democracies, etc., are all issues he has left to the next generations. Not to mention his failed bid to fight terrorism and the Iraq burden.

Abraham Lincoln quote: ““Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side . . .”
