Since today is All-Gay Monday. Here's a story about Ted Haggard's "special friend", Mike Jones, who visited Haggard's megachurch yesterday.
Jones describes the experience:
They were all congenial," he said. "None of them expressed anger, and many expressed gratitude for what they said was 'exposing the deception.' "
Associate Pastor Rob Brendle saw Jones in the foyer.
"I told Mike, 'I don't want to impose my religious beliefs on you, but I believe God used you to correct us, and I appreciate that,' " Brendle said.
"The church's response to him was overwhelmingly warm," he said. "One of the wonderful and enduring truths of Christianity is to love people the world sets up to be your enemies."
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28
So this Jones is going to capitalize on his life with Haggard… he is researching writing a book and attending the church was part of his research… I’d feel rather used if I were part of that church.
It’s called turning the other cheek. Somebody important said something about that once, I can’t remember who…
Why was there no fore-warning that today was going to be All-Gay Monday? I could have called in sick today.
Come on Catalyst –turning the cheek? Yes but if there is one mistake we have
all made is we don’t see through people’s motives. We are so quick to use that verse and its foundational but if you read the boundaries book it is okay to
have your antenna’s up at all times. If we had than maybe there would be
no need for this blog. Be as wise as serpants and as gentle as doves….
a balance.
If he doesn’t score a book or an interview on a major network tell all soon
I’ll eat my hat.
True. And you’re right, the guy is definitely angling for a book or movie deal.
Still, the church could have gotten upset, but instead decided to show the guy Christ’s love. I don’t know; it seemed nice to me.
He IS writing a book… this is from the website link in the original post…
