YouTube Song: God Hates the World
Posted on April 12th, 2007 by catalyst into the Uncategorized, Biblical Parody categoryI've watched this music video twice, and I can't tell whether it's serious or not?
I think it's a joke, but I'm not sure.
Update:
I thought this was a joke, but after doing a little research, I think it's legit.

What the f*art? That’s either very funny or very sad. Or maybe a bit of both.
April 12th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Kind of reminds me of a big t-shirt I saw once at a large protest rally by some local “church christians”.
It said:

GOD HATES FAGS

??

I’m gonna lean towards real (sadly) because the older lady that is on TV from 3:36 to 3:42 looks like it could be the same older lady who is front and center at 3:57…maybe not though.

God hates the blog
God hates the Mortons
God hates RP, Cat, Sam and Tom
And all you bloggers
April 12th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
It doesn’t look like much of a joke. Here are the notes on the clip:
And here is what Wikipedia says about Westboro Baptist Church
That John 3:16 guy is full of sh*t.
April 12th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Did anyone else catch the “gay” wearing the “Jesus is a C*nt” t-shirt???
I guess that explains why God hates the World.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Whew…that’s scary stuff…
I think the guy I felt the worst for was the kid in the middle of group, wearing the blue sweat shirt. He was super nervous about the whole thing, doing his best to look like he was into it, but really wasn’t, yet needed to be accepted by those folks while not really buying it.
You have to wonder who there has something on him, that keeps him hanging in with folks he just “knows” are all whack jobs.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
You sure read A LOT into this and make assumptions based on your own personal issues, Tom! I didn’t watch the video and am definitely NOT defending what they’re doing at all, I’m just saying for all you know the guy had a bad day or maybe his mind is somewhere else…. not everyone allows themselves to be “bullied” into an association like you assume.
April 12th, 2007 at 4:01 pm
Not making any type of polarizing statement here, but I found this NY Times article very interesting.
A friend of mine was actually involved in the NWU study. Lots of interesting research going on in this area.
April 12th, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Just watched the vid. This song rocks. I’m making it my ring-tone.
Uhmmm… or… he could be an adolescent nervous about singing into a mic. and being videotaped?
Quick guess on the number homeschoolers? There’s a lot of bad hair in there.

ChurchGirl,
If you happen to be single still, and if JB Purl is still single, I think the two of you would make a super couple…
You guys could sit up late each night, thinking of ways to diss me, and then jump in here and give it a shot.
Or, you could wasting your time, go away, and get on with your life, cuz…you are a real annoyance.
April 12th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
ChurchGirl,
Or, you might consider hooking up with this group, and really get it on…
April 12th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
ChurchGirl,
You really should at least look at the video…you might be missing your calling at the Church you are currently haunting.
April 12th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Folks,
Check out the BBC podcast linked to the video. It’s real….and maybe one of the scarier things I’ve seen in my time. Topeka, KS is a little too close to Colorado for comfort.
Remember the guy who used to have similar signs on his truck at then-Bible Temple back in the early-mid 90’s? Even my father, one of the most homophobic people I know, was offended by it. Just goes to show that there are gradations to everything, I guess…or perhaps more accurately, levels of self-honesty. In the BBC video there’s a clip of a guy driving past the Westboro Baptist Church protest (they’re holding up their various “God Hates Fags” signs at the Kansas City, MO funeral of a soldier killed in Iraq) who tries to “talk some sense” to these people, telling them that he “doesn’t approve of the lifestyle either.” He is quickly shouted down by Shirley and sent on his way. But, the problem is that both people ultimately believe the same thing: being gay means you go to hell. Period. The guy in the car is just too polite to say so, though he privately gives himself to pass the same judgment. He might say something about hating the sin and loving the sinner, but would he be likely to freak out if asked to even shake hands with someone who was openly gay? Yep, you betcha. But that’s ok, right? Jesus didn’t actually want us to touch people we disagreed with, right?
At least Shirley and her crew are putting their indoctrination where their mouth is. In a sick way, part of me has to respect them more than the namby-pamby “moral majority” who hide behind being nice.
On a lighter note, how is it that these people even KNOW a Michael Jackson song? Is God ok with accused pedophiles? Maybe it’s because he used to be a Jehovah’s Witness and they’ve worked out some kind of truce. Huh.
April 12th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
That video was sad… disgusting…distasteful….scary…. What a bunch of misled people playing follow the leader..
Is there a chance it is supported by MFI? They seem to like follow the leader too.
Cricket—that was a m.jackson tune?
April 12th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
“Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is a U.S. church group headed by Fred Phelps and based in Topeka, Kansas. It runs the website GodHatesFags.com,[1] and GodHatesAmerica.com, and other websites expressing condemnation of homosexuals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Sweden, Canada, and other groups.”
Finally, someone is spreading the word about the emerging evil that is Sweden.
April 12th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Are_the_World
Same melody, same harmonies, totally opposing message.
Who knew I’d ever be siding with Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie about anything?
And who knew that a homeschool alum would ever be telling anyone anything about Michael Jackson?
Although, I have to admit that I only know that song and its authorship from the choral arrangement…and I only know the choral arrangement from my days working as the Director of Music at a Methodist church.
Still a geek, after all this. And thus, order and predictability is restored to the universe. And dammit, now I have “We are the world” stuck in my head. In solfege. Geez.
April 12th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
God hates the world and all her people
I’m guessing fake. The hardcores (I’m talking about the hardcores) preach that feminizing the earth (Mother Nature and the like) is bad. They would have used a better word.
April 12th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Guys, oh guys….hellooooo there…I’m just messing with the guy in the blue sweatshirt. Because I’m usually soooo serious, and soooo spiritual, you’all think that everything I say I am serious, and not just poking fun. To set the record straight…I haven’t even got the slightest clue, divine inspiration, or word of knowledge as to why the guy in the blue sweatshirt is grinning like a cheshire cat. For all I know he just passed gas and hopes he doesn’t get blamed for it…lighten up a bit here…
April 13th, 2007 at 7:40 am
Tom, it’s time to take your meds and have a nap. You are taking this (a differing opinion about something not really that important) way too personally.
This is sadly real. Yes, Virgina, there really are people who profess to be Christians and then hate, judge and condemn others and feel like they are doing God’s work. Watching the video made me sick to my stomach because it completely misrepresents who God is. Every time I want to share how much Christ has saved me, I have to hope and pray that the people listening have never seen this kind of bulls*** - that they haven’t already been convinced that Christians are nothing but hateful, ignorant people and that they will associate me with them. I hesitate to even use the word “Christian” because of the negative associations people have with it.
Also, these people should be sued for recording a song without permission. I don’t think a CCLI license covers this kind of plagiarism. It’s clearly not satire - they honestly mean it.
April 13th, 2007 at 7:50 am
This guy is definitely real, just a little quirky. Basically, he’s decided he is the only righteous man left in the U.S. because nobody outside his family will go along with his various hate agendas, so he goes around the country warning all the sinners how much God hates them. The real kicker is most of his clan are licensed lawyers and they’re very careful not to break any laws with their antics, but they’re notorious for baiting their targets into attacking them so they can sue.
Makes it a little hard to embrace a fire and brimstone message after seeing an extreme it can be taken to by a misled person…
April 13th, 2007 at 8:02 am
No worries Tom, didn’t catch the sarcasm first time around. I’m Homeschooled, you’ll have to cut me some slack.
April 13th, 2007 at 8:09 am
FICM and WTFWJD and ChurchGirl,
Thanks for the reminder that I need to stay in the Spirit. I’m leathal when I’m not there…
God took me to task over it last night…doing better this morning.
April 13th, 2007 at 9:00 am
Married. I have a life too (notice the length and frequency of your posts compared to mine, dude!).
I don’t need to “hook up” with ANY group, I’m an individual.
I really doubt I’m “haunting” my church… you sure have the gift of encouragement! lol…
Thanks for the laughs, Tom… at least they were short & sweet instead of so wordy we all have to scan through your comments to see if there’s even a point to your rambling. Oh but wait…
So now you feel differently? What a cop out! And by the way, I’ve never thought of you as “soooo spiritual” at all, although it does appear that you have an elevated opinion of your own understanding and revelation of scripture. I’d really take a second look, if I were you, to determine who really needs to get a life here. It just seems like SOMEONE has a lot of time on his hands, that’s all.

wow…this post has reached new heights of pettiness. Take a deep breath, everyone.

I’m pretty sure we can go higher. Did you read any of the comments under the Judah Smith posts?

Licensing of secular music - the Harry Fox Agency would be a good place to start …

They are just the shock jocks/rockers of the christian world. They are no different then Marylyn Manson or Rob Zombie. We wouldn’t be talking about them if they weren’t crazy.
April 13th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Dear Friends,
I’ve come to a settled conclusion, and one I’ve wrestled with, but I do not do well in this forum of discussion. I don’t blame anyone but myself, but in the interests of honoring Christ I must say goodbye.
So, along with others who have come and gone, I exit stage left.
To those I have offended…please accept my apology. Those whom Christ in me has offended…well…I’m sure He will guide you… I’ll leave you to judge which was which.
Keep up the good work! Yours is a challenging call.

I’ve been reading this website for sometime and have often thought about commenting, but have not done so before now. I attended CBC for 20 years and have a ‘degree’ from PBC. When I divorced my husband, for valid scriptural reasons, I was told that there was no reason for me to divorce my husband and that counseling was available when and if he wanted it. My children and I were devastated. When we stopped attending no one ever contacted us to see if we were ok. I now attend Easthill on major holidays and do not attend church otherwise. I still pray and feel connected to God but do not feel safe or comfortable in a church. That was over five years ago and I am ‘over it’ now, but it has been very healing for me to see that I am not the only one who had a negative experience at CBC. I have especially enjoyed reading what David Mackin and Tom Sparks and Larry Taylor said, as they were all teachers of mine at PBC. The reason I finally decided to write today was when I watched the ‘God hates the world’ video on youtube. It was painful for me to watch and all I could think was ‘ For God so loved the world that he gave his only son…’. I have a hard time dealing with hate and anger and pride and people who act like they are perfect and better than others. I know that I am much better off not being at CBC and my children are better off. I have regrets for some of the things that I put my children through based on the influence of the church. I homeschooled my children for many years and have no regrets for that and most of them have no regrets either. I think this website is mostly a very positive forum for healing and growth. Personally I have decided that I am accountable to God for what I do and I can let everyone else do what they do, whether it is right or wrong, and that is between them and God.

I think some people need to learn how to use the internets better.
April 14th, 2007 at 7:18 am
I’m not sure anyone does well in this forum of discussion, Tom. So-called ‘e-Fellowships’ are a mirage - I’ve never seen one that even came close to matching the fellowship of a live, face to face gathering. JP and Catalyst might differ with me, but the blog isn’t so much built on the foundation of Christ as it is built on an anti-Frank or anti-CBC foundation. Surely it waffles back and forth with genuine heart-felt sharing and ‘lampooning’ everyone and everything.
Sorry to see you go, brother. But I understand and respect your decision. Don’t be a stranger!

Everyone and everything. True true.

I want to say how sorry I am to Elizabeth Dalton for the way she was treated during her divorce. I had a friend whose mom went to a Bible Temple outreach church when he was a kid. His mom was married to a guy who was an ex-convict and very dangerous. He had lots of guns that were against the condition of his parole. He abused her and the kids horridly and he slept around. When she went to the elders of this church, they told her to stay married and that it may bring him to the Lord. They even suggested that her death would serve a purpose if it came to that.
April 14th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I haven’t commented on Tom Sparks rants since March 1st and did not plan to. But because he tried to tie me to a bigoted church and suggested I would be at home there, I will recount the crazy comments he has made and I have challenged him with:
1. He says that he now realizes and practices letting his home church members make their own decisions. But reading other statements he would think they were joining a corrupt organization and going back to Babylon if they wanted to go to the local church down the road.
2. Any pastor making their living as a pastor cannot truly be a good leader.
3. He is willing to attack people’s integrity, principles and morals even though he has never met them. All attacks are based on the fact that they are involved in something he doesn’t agree with.
4. He said we desperately need a civil war. But when this is pointed out as loony he says he just meant it to be figuratively.
7. He called all church goers insane, ignorant and part of a Babylonian system. But when challenged he said he doesn’t mean the people in church, just the system.
8. He thinks that our government not only knew about the 9/11 attack but actually had a hand in orchestrating it.
9. He thinks that the Jews are behind our political games and posturing. He watches the money and it leads to the Jews doorstep. But he claims not to be an anti-Semite.
10. If you don’t buy what he is selling on the above thoughts you probably are just too feeble of mind and to full of anxiety to admit to the things he knows from his massive intellect, hours of prayer, and hours of research.
– After comparing the following quotes, you tell me who would be more at home in a bigoted church.
QUOTES FROM IRANIAN PRESIDENT MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD
“There is no place in the world that suffers from divisions and wars unless America or the Zionists’ fingerprints are seen there.”
“Zionists are the true manifestation of Satan,”
“Many Western governments that claim to be pioneers of democracy and standard bearers of human rights close their eyes over crimes committed by the Zionists and by remaining silent support the Zionists due to their hedonistic and materialistic tendencies,”
QUOTES FROM TOM SPARKS
“Do I actually believe our government knew about the 911 attack, and perhaps even had a hand in orchestrating it? I know this will upset you about me, but it wouldn’t at all surprise me if they did, and the evidence is amassing towards this conclusion. But then I’m just a nutty crackpot…conspiracy theorist…”
“Do I suspect that Jewish Zionism is actually connected with the worldwide political games and posturings? Sorry about this, but I do very much think so! Am I anti-semetic? Nope, just watching the trail of the money and it all too often leads to Zionism’s doorstep. Do I think Iran’s president has it right about Israel and Zionism? Nope! He has his own agenda, but he does see some of the Zionism issues accurately I suspect. He’s just going to take it in directions that are really off base.”
April 14th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
Ah, feel the love.
April 14th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
I don’t know who Tom Sparks is but I did read his little ditty about 9/11 and there is evidence that 9/11 wasn’t all that it was made out to be. Loose Change is a good start.
If you comment on this without ever watching it then you are wasting your time and mine. Being ignorant does not make anyone smarter. My point is research things even though it is scary sometimes to look at other peoples point of views. You might surprise yourself and find out something new that could change your life.
April 14th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
That doesn’t sound like Tom Sparks. hmmm…
April 14th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Fellowshipping with you must be a real treat, JBP - do you keep “lists” on everyone in your fellowship, to accuse them at your leisure?
What a jerk.
April 14th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Tom fancies himself a teacher so I don’t feel it is wrong to remind people about his teachings. Is it ‘keeping a list’ when you remind people what someone has said? Tom tried to say I would be at home at a church full of bigots when his own comments show seems anti-semetic and he buys into conspiricy theories. I have a question for you Hbourne and Unscrupulous man. Do you believe, like Tom, that the Jews are behind our political games and posturing and that if you watch the money it leads to the Jews doorstep? Tom does. Are you defending that?
April 15th, 2007 at 5:41 am
Just because someone is a teacher, doesn’t mean everything they say is “teaching”. Teachers hold personal opinions on issues that are outside their field of expertise. My wife teaches Home Ec and has opinions about religion, politics, entertainment, art, etc. Do I think that everytime she opens her mouth it is as “teacher”? That everything she says is authoritative? Would I presume to disqualify her as a teacher of Home Economics because I disagree with her political views? No on all counts.
Your problem, JB, is you can’t see Tom the person - the human who faces all the same day to day issues everyone else does - rather, you see Tom as some kind of ‘functionary’ where you have reduced him to no more or less than a teacher and from whom you expect every word to ‘measure up’ to JBPurls interpretation of scripture, political views, etc.
I should think if you knew the Tom from many years ago and took the time to know him now, you’d marvel at the changes God has done in him.
You know, JB - the Lord said “forgive and you will be forgiven” … have you considered the application of that? You are setting yourself up to face a harsh and unforgiving God, in as much as you are being a harsh and unforgiving ‘god’ to others.
‘Scrupe
April 15th, 2007 at 5:57 am
No. I agree with you.
I think that the blog does allow people to express their feelings honestly, without fear of reprisal. Which can be helpful.
However, commenting on blogs is a dangerous way to communicate, and opens the door for hurt feelings.
So thanks for your participation in the blog, Tom, and good luck. I wish you the best.
April 15th, 2007 at 11:10 am
J.B. Burl, I find it quite interesting that you would automatically judge me and put me in an anit-semetic group because I agree with him about 9/11. I believe it was about oil and money, not Jewish people. Get your facts right. Don’t twist this into something it isn’t because you don’t agree with me. Watch the movie and then talk to me.

Imagine if this group was Muslim and not Christian. I think we’d be calling them terrorists.
Fundamentalism is wrong in all forms.
April 18th, 2007 at 10:06 am
HB, aren’t you the smart one. The reason we went to war was oil and money? That’s right and gas prices have gone down since the war and not up?!? Makes no sense.
