“I look forward to Armageddon”

Posted on July 26th, 2007 by catalyst into the Biblical Parody category

Here's a fun video of a recent Christians United for Israel Tour, which is a conference for Christians devoted to helping Israel.

The video was created by a left leaning individual, so it's not exactly your typical Christian video. But it's interviews with the conference participants are absolutely priceless.

Indeed. There are few who are quite as self-serving, self-seeking, and hypocritical as we are. Is it just me, or does it seem like narcissism is on the rise in modern Christianity?

Whatever happened to love? Whatever happened to humility? Whatever happened to honesty, benevolence, meekness and self-sacrificing? This kind of stuff breaks my heart.

I love that this question was asked on a Christian blog that really can only claim the honesty part.

We need a fresh approach of what it means being Christians.
We need a new style of leadership that promotes compassion without propaganda, truth without exclussivity, and love without hipocrissy.

If you will again reference my comment, you’ll notice that I used the pronoun we. I was talking about us as in Christians as a whole.

    (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself :o )

In Christendom today, the biggest mistake seems to be that we are looking for a king to follow, when we should just be following the King…..

When I saw that clip, I wasn’t so much angered at what some are supposing to be their bigotry, which I think it isn’t, per se, as I was saddened at them being deceived by false teaching, and at the fact that Jewish people like Max are being turned off to their true Messiah, Christ.

Unfortunately, the Dispensational interpretation has spawned a rampant sub-culture of those holding to the at-any-moment-rapture-theory, mis-guided souls who run around from conference to conference parroting the same doctrine and catch-phrases they’ve been erroneously taught. These hapless saints never seem to bother to really study the Word for themselves, open-mindedly, but see everything only through the jaded viewpoint of their pastors/teachers.

Same thing with the Naked Archaeologist guy, who is Jewish, on the History Channel…he’s just really biased to the truth of Christ, and comes off as bigoted against Christians.

    Disagree with you here, RF.

    Just a few examples.

Wouldn’t you agree that the way Muslims, for example, inasmuch as they are strapping bombs to themselves, going into public places and blowing up (thousands? is it now of) innocent people who are guilty of nothing more than being alive, are much “worse” than Christians? For which — as well as for beheading on Al Jazeera TV (you can see this for yourself on youtube) innocent hostages they’ve kidnapped who oppose their doctrine — they look forward to receiving (from, of necessity, an ever-shrinking supply of) 70 virgins each in heaven.

I haven’t seen too many Christians kidnapping workers, UN employees, or mercy-showers from the Red Cross, and whacking off their noggins with curved sabres. Although, at the prospect of getting a hold of all those virgins, a few “Christians” might be tempted to change religions.

Don’t forget the publicly-stated intention of Iranian prez Ahmadinijad (sp?) to “wipe off the map” a people whose only offence is that they were born Jewish. And I suspect if the international community isn’t successful in stopping him from acquiring nuclear weapons, he will try to do exactly that.

What about the tripe spewed by Louis Farrakhan and adherents of the Nation of Islam? The entire fabric of their movement, as well as their official statements, are built upon hate and bigotry — the white race are “devils” and “sub-human,” etc. They deceive the multiplied thousands of their followers, and believe one of their key guys, Fhard Muhammed, is God manifest in the flesh, which makes them anti-christal (1 John 4:3).

The only people I am aware of who could be (mistakenly) construed as an example of your statement of how Christians are the “worst group out there,” are not really an example, since they are not real “Christians” at all. I’m referring to the handful of those mislabeled as “Christians” by the media, the sort who attempt to blow up abortion clinics, marry as many under-aged children as they can get their grubby hands on, and so forth.

IMO, the above-mentioned Muslims, NOI, etc., far outnumber — and outperform — any other group for hatred and bigotry. Christians are at least TAUGHT to love and forgive their enemies, and whose sometimes stupid attitudes/opinions shouldn’t even begin to be compared to stuff going on out there.

I knew someone was going to come back with the terrorist defense…I didn’t expect it to come from you, Joebib. Seriously, what percentage of Muslims are terrorists? I believe the number is less than 1%. What are “less than 1%” of Christians involved in? All kinds of sick stuff.

Of course, when I say, “Christians are the worst group of people out there” I’m not including Murderers, Rapists, Molesters, and the like. I’m just talking about your average, non-terrorist, type of people and Christians are the worst.

Just for fun though, I will say this: IF there is a heaven and IF there is a hell and IF it is a Christian’s job to convert the world…I would have to say that “American Christians” are just as bad as all of the above groups you mentioned…

  12. joebibstudent said:

    Reformed Pope–

You’re probably right, JP, perhaps it is less than 1% of Muslims, only the most extreme, rabid ones who become full-blown (pun intended) terrorists ;)

But that doesn’t change the fact of what Muslims, AS A WHOLE, are being taught BY THE MILLIONS, which teachings comprise the very warp and woof of their religion — that Israel must be destroyed, the glorification of hating and killing your enemy, the existence and justification of the entire concept of jihad, the degradation of women, etc.

Don’t you remember that Dutch newspaper which a while back showed a comic picture of Mohammed with a bomb disguised in his turban, commenting that the heavenly supply of virgins given to Islamic “martyrs” must surely be running low? Or, before that, author Salman Rushdee (sp?) and his book critical of Islam? Muslim protestors, the “regular” ones, flooded the streets of the world’s cities BY THE MILLIONS, calling for death, destruction and holy retribution.

What about how over the past years Christians have been chased through the streets, beaten with clubs, and murdered by the thousands BY REGULAR MUSLIMS in their Islam-dominated communities around the world, especially in Indo- Poly- and Micro-nesia? And you’re trying to equate those MILLIONS of Muslims with the 1% of your isolated, so-called “American Christian” wackos who actually kill people??? Or, who claim the white race is superior, etc., which fringe groups are roundly comdemned by millions of true Christians.

One or two extremists, located here and there out of the mainstream, in no way justifies your characterization that American Christians are “just as bad” as the MILLIONS of Muslims around the world, who, though they may not currently be signing up for burqa-fitted bombs, nevertheless heartily endorse what their more (if I may use the word) “ballsy” comrades are perpetrating in the name of their mutual god, Allah. Comrades who, BTW, are not only considered card-carrying “Muslims” by their fellows, but who are extolled as “heroes” by the mainline, collections are taken up for their families, and so forth.

So, just because the majority, just because joe-regular-Muslim hasn’t yet bought into the blowing-himself-up-for-70-virgins-deal, the fact nevertheless remains that the entire mindset of their religion, what can weekly be heard preached in their mosques, their vitriolic message of hatred/violence, that vast Muslim majority is diametrically opposed, in principle and practice, to our religion of Christianity.

Which religion, as you well know, is based on love and forgiveness, mercy and compassion, and upon the example of Christ, Who, not only laid down His life for His enemies, but instructed His followers to abstain from violence, and to lay down their lives as well (Matthew 5:44; 1 John 3:16, etc.).

If only Christianity were limited to this simple message of the gospel… but sadly, many feel the need to pollute it with their own additions. And that, is what makes “general Christianity” worse, I think, then many other religions, even those who preach violence from the pulpit.

Being close to the truth is not close enough.

If we view “religion” through the eyes of Christ, it really doesn’t matter if our chosen religion calls us to blow up other people, or if we merely use our religion to deceive others from the truth, or if we call ourselves christians and then live a life of anger, bitterness, jealousy, and have other fleshly “idols” ruling our lives.

The result is the same — a lack of relationship with the savior, Jesus Christ.

In a way, I do think mainstream Christianity is worse the most other religions.. because it gets people so close to being saved that they may not even realize they are not.

    Henri—

Your points are well taken, and I agree with you (in general).

What you say about the state of modern “Christianity” — maybe “Church-ianity” would be a better word — reminds me of the churches in Revelation, three in particular: 1) Ephesus, who, despite their many wonderful works, had forgotten about loving Christ, 2) Sardis, who had a name that they lived, but were in fact spiritually dead and, 3) Laodicea, who allowed their vast wealth to foster in them a self-satisfied naiveté as to their true condition, and of whom Jesus said He’d rather have them be patently cold — where at least they could be shown/persuaded of their need to change.

At least Muslims appear to be, for the most part, far more “devout” to their cause/religion than most Christians evidently are to their’s. They seem to be very committed to the core tenets and sundry demands of Islam, as is evidenced by their readiness to sacrifice — on several different levels — as well as their uncompromising stance on what they do believe. Traits which the majority of us Christians seem to be in very short supply of :)

Despite NT teaching to the contrary (e.g., Matthew 6:19-21, Matthew 16:24-26; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; James 2:5, James 5:1, etc.) far too many joe-average-believers in our day are being told by their pastors from the pulpit that prosperity and wealth, good fortune and good times, nice cars and nice clothes are their inalienable rights, and are part and parcel of Christianity.

Oh, and the way to get them is to give, give, give.
