The last days of City Christian High School

Posted on November 6th, 2007 by catalyst into the City Boobie Church category

No surpise here:

A short time after [Frank Damazio] took the reins of [City Bible Church], it became evident, at least within the CBSchool staff, that the school was not of any priority to him. It was more like a thorn in the side of his goals and ambitions.

Well, that has progressed to its actual culmination. It was recently announced to the school staff, that as the end of next year the church will withdraw any further financial support to it. The CBSchool will either sink or swim on its own. Look out Ed M!, your job may well be on the line. It seems like a “chlidren’s and young people’s ministry be damned” attitude is prevelant here.

To many of the oldtimers of days gone bye, that school was a very important part of their children’s lives and the Church. Its priority was very high on the list of the old Church”s mission. It’s incomprehensible that this is happening. How can it be?

Well! Missions and goals change as leadership changes. Where once was a Godly and humble leadership that cared for the people under its leadership, there is more of a “I don’t care what the people think.I will do as I damn well please,” attitude.

Should self-centered, egotistical kingdom building take precedence over nurturing of families and children within the church membership.??? Is it okay to take from the kid’s school funding in order to purchase outside expensive realestate ??? —– ——– ——-.(fill’em in)

Recent discussion with some of the old diehard members of CBC paints a picture of restlessness and dissapointment in the way that pf is spending the Church’ money. Some are now starting to vote with thier wallets and debit cards. It was reported to that tihting there is down 50% of what it was before. Maybe they can blame it on the economy, huh!

A short time ago someone on this blog asked, “When is enough, enough? Where will it all end ???”
Stick around. If the status quo is maintained there, it will be interesting, to say the least.

I was in the congregation when Dick Iverson laid out his vision for the school and the church’s children — whether they went to the school or not. One of the things I always appreciated about DI was his desire to “move the flock” all in one piece, kind of like Moses had to do with Israel. They never went so fast that the old ones or the little ones or even the sheep and cows couldn’t keep up.

I guess that shepherd’s heart got lost when the baton was passed. :(

    Sad news to me…
I rather enjoyed the years I spent at that school; in fact there should be video tape footage of me loudly swearing in front of Ed on one of those mexico trips. (I swear I didn’t know he was directly behind me)

If only they clone dozens of Mrs Coleman’s who would work for about the same wages as the average day laborer…

The whole situation is so so very painful…One of our children graduated in ‘06′. We have one more which will graduate in ‘09′. To think after all these years, the possibility of graduating at CCHS can just be randomly yanked out from under the kids. No heart left is there? Just stone cold!!!

No one in leadership has a heart or brain left?! No sense of honor left?! If a parent were to say a thing they know their child would pay the price. They would give you some reason to remove them from the school. I couldn’t do that to them. I keep telling myself it’s only two more years till our childs graduation. Till then CBC is a large missionfield to find plenty to do. After that God willing we’ll wipe our feet of the place and move on.

All we can do in the mean time is pray with all our mights for God’s will to be done…

What I have seen over the years here on the harbor is that christian schools only last as long as the pastors children are attending. As soon as they graduate and move into adulthood there is always a decision to shut the school down.

The same thing happens with youth groups. If the pastors children are teenagers then there is usually a strong youth group with a lot of church support. If the pastors children are grade school age then all of the focus is on childrens church. Could this be the same thing going on here?

    Unbelievable.

That’s because DI at BT, as well as KJC at PBC, always tried to follow the example of Genesis 33:13 — I personally heard the latter mention it many times as being their (joint) philosophy.

I guess that shepherd’s heart got lost when the baton was passed.

Yep, sure seems like it. Interesting (Freudian?) that you chose that word instead of the more logical “staff” or “crook.” Or, maybe what was passed was a crook, but has subsequently been modified. ;)

Now that would be an interesting scenario to look into, wouldn’t it? Anybody know about that?

After the recent staff layoffs at PBC, I’m also wondering about its future.

Apparently his daughter’s attendance at CCHS doesn’t even make a difference in his behavior towards the school.

Well I guess this means that CCS/CCHS will have to change their mission statement.

Not so much the “local church” as it used to be, eh?

I think PBC is next victim!
….or probably not, since his son is there…

Talk has it that soon CBC will become a mere Internship program, as per
    CC up by Seattle.
Imagine! The leadership here too will have at there fingertips all the free labor and errand boys and girls they would ever need. All in the name of Internship training.
To bad for all those nieve young people who only want to be trained servr God with their lives. Abuse is on the horizon. Hide and watch!
