Re: A quote from Abraham Lincoln
Posted on December 11th, 2007 by Reformed Pope into the Uncategorized categoryI recently received the following email from blog reader, Alicia Hunt, with the subject line, A Quote from Abraham Lincoln:
"If you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it."
-Abraham LincolnI read a couple of your articles here and it seems from my breif visit to
this sight that you try very hard to find as many flaws per person and per
sermon assosiated with the City Bible Church that you possibly can. What was
it that Jesus said to the adulterous women? "He who is without sin cast the
first stone"Yes no one is perfect or completely biblically sound but God looks at the
heart, and I think he sees that the City Bible Church and Judah Smith have a
heart to change the world and they are stepping out and doing it. They had
the guts to step out and I respect them for that. sorry for getting personal
here, but what are you doing to change the world?I know their ministries have changed my life through Generation Unleashed
and Judah's podcasts. And I thank God for them. 1 Samuel 26:11From a seventeen year old girl in Canada who wants to change the world too.
And will, with Jesus as her source.

While we are not able to respond to every email we get, we try to reply to as many as possible, this time however, my response was sent back to me…I think Alicia may have been afraid that I was going to put a voodoo email hex on her, so she blocked my reply. No matter, Alicia, here is the email you would have received:
Alicia, thanks for your comments. I can see how it would appear that all we do is "find the bad" in people…and to some extent that is true. One thing that you may want to consider is that 10 years ago we were in the exact same place that you are in now. Both Justin (Catalyst) and I spent a number of years getting pumped up at Generation Unleashed…but to be frank, we were young and stupid.
The Bible is very complex, and the teachings that both CBC and Judah Smith share are often un-Biblical. I wish it weren't so. They put on a great conference every year, it's very entertaining and I hope it has had a positive effect on your life…but there is a big difference between hype and change.
"To sin by silence when they should protest, makes cowards out of men."

Deal with your rebellious spirit. Seek God and and stop seeking allies to join this immature website. As Gamaliel, a wise teacher of the law in acts 5 said of Jesus and his disciples, “if it is of human origin it will fail, but if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
I warn you to be careful! I believe you are making a grave mistake in spreading this propaganda. There is mercy for those who seek it. The bible is very clear on those who cause division. “Warn a divisive person once and after that have nothing to do with them”. Our enemy is also called the accuser of the brethren. I write this not in anger but in concern for those of you involved in this. If you would like to talk or discuss anything i have said, please feel free to email me.

Nice reply, and you resisted the urge to correct her (mis-) statements about the adulterous woman.
Good job.

3 years and counting…and God hasn’t silenced anything. Instead, he’s got the attention of the U.S. Senate to investigate the ministries of those who teach the Prosperity Doctrine.

You said that many of the teachings at CBC and by Judah Smith were “un-biblical”, I was wondering if you could give me a few examples of this, just so we are clear.
Thank you!

“If you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it.”
… Because it’s there.
Democracy and community are tools we use to keep each other accountable and hopefully limit the natural abuse of power that comes from authoritative positions.

If only there weren’t so few CBC members allowed to pray for people, John Paul could have been delivered of his rebellious spirit by now…
