NPR on the Prosperity Gospel
Posted on April 3rd, 2008 by catalyst into the Prosperity Doctrine categoryMonday, March 31, was the deadline for certain pastors to submit information to Senator Chuck Grassley (R) regarding Grassley's investigation into their financial practices.
As a follow up, NPR did a short piece with a Professor of Religion from the Unversity of Rochestor on the "Prosperity Gospel".
It is a fairly well balanced segment, explaining the belief of the prosperity doctrine and how that belief has potentially run afoul of certain tax laws. The professor ends the segment by calling Prosperity Doctrine churches "corporations". She concludes that when a corporation pretends to be a non-profit it can get into trouble.
Lastly, here is a good article listing where all the pastors stand in their complaince with the investigation.

The prosperity gospel was also briefly mentioned on Monday’s Fresh Air interview with Dwight Hopkins (Baptist minister/theology professor). While discussing black liberation theology and the Rev. Wright controversy, Hopkins mentioned that the general perception of the black church is overshadowed today by five prominent prosperity pastors such as T.D. Jakes.

Here’s a really interesting article CNN just posted about the prosperity doctrine:

Has anyone else noticed that God is using the world to judge the church? Why is that? Has the church become such a group of mindless passive pansies that people can’t stand up to the wrong that’s taking place? Or is it that everyone is so fearful of being labeled “rebellious” or “a tool of the devil” that they won’t speak out? Why won’t the church grow some balls and start standing up to the frauds, fakes, liars, cheaters, and stealers like they did back in Corinth? I think God is calling some of us (me included) to go beyond this blog and do more to shed some light on the corruption in God’s house. Why are 20/20, Dateline, the Today show, Congress, Hollywood film companies, and a whole host of secular authors they only ones raising questions? We need people who’ve actually lived a life dedicated to God raising the important questions. I think it’s time to write a book……

You are “God’s house” … are you saying you are corrupted?

Most definitely. I am one corrupt, sinful, disgraced, human being, but I am also justified and sanctified in righteousness at the same time. Praise Jesus.
