I’m subversive and I’m proud!
Posted on May 2nd, 2008 by catalyst into the About Us categoryPam over at How God Messed up My Religion just nominated this blog for The Subversive Blogger Award, or something like that.
Here is her explanation:
3. City Business Church
Not for the faint of heart. These wayward brothers of a local megachurch take to task through biting satire and razor sharp insight the corrupt messaging of the prosperity gospel and overpaid clergy. You have been warned.
Now, I'll be honest, usually when I see the words "Not for the faint of heart" and "You have been warned", I think I'm about to stumble upon some pretty dirty porn. But uh, evidently those terms apply to this blog as well. I thought about this for awhile, and decided that Pam was absolutely right. This blog is subversive, and you know what, that's quite alright with me. My goal in blogging is to undermine the Prosperity Gospel and the churches that preach it.
And you know who else was known as subversive, a young messiah I like to call "Jesus Christ". Calling out the pharisees wasn't exactly the Status Quo at the time. And the Roman Government didn't crucify Christ because he was complimenting them on their excellent management style. Christ spent the majority of his life, showing people a better way to live. And they killed Him for it. Jesus was a Subversive Savior.
So, thank you Pam. I genuinely appreciate the compliment.

your welcome, cat (and rp, joe and david).
you guys are agitators. in a good kind of way. keep acting up. we need ill behaved abolitionists in these times of enslavement to an effed up prosperity mindset and ego-driven religious businesses.
Keep telling the emperor he ain’t got no clothes on. Somebody has to.

Good stuff Pam…I am new to the blog world but have found this City Business Church one to be a great outlet. I am part of a bible study that breaks down the word book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. This month we have been looking at Corinthians where Paul calls out the church for all sorts of unruly behavior. Its funny because I can parallel a lot of what we talk about from back then to the American Evangelical church of today (your CBCs and CC’s of the country), and back then everyone was living status quo with very few people calling them out. Thank God the Morton brothers got the courage to take a stand and start calling these modern day pharisees out from under the sheets. And thank God I was saved from the church!

Wahoo! That’s my Jesus!
And if THEY (pretend not to) listen, at least others are being warned and stuff is getting clarified and hopefully more and more sincerely seeking people will stay clear of MFI churches and others like them (Prosperity Gospel Megas)!
