I Kissed SGM Goodbye
Posted on July 8th, 2008 by catalyst into the Other Blogs categoryIt's Sovereign Grace Ministry month here at City Business, so here is another blog from someone who left her church. What's especially great about this blog, is the beautiful young lady includes the different email exhanges she had with her pastors during the time she thought about leaving.
Here's the email she received after she finally convinced the pastor she was leaving:
I suspect that the way you are thinking you would never have been present to hear Paul's letter to the Galatians being read to the congregation.
Hahaha… Good one, pastor, Good one. You got her. PWNED!
If you have time, read through the entire email exchange. It's the classic passive aggressive approach to pastoring. "I love you. But because you want to leave the church, you are walking in sin. I want to you help you resist this sin. Oh, and the church is the bride of Christ."

This is the quote from the pastor that got to me:
That is just NOT true. I have seen so many people who live their entire lives worshiping and serving the Church. Church is their God and Jesus is just a small part of that.
Pastors can be so damn arrogant.

IKissedSGM Goodbye is my blog (and, by the way, I’m a SHE, not a he
but no offense taken!
Anyway, kind of surprised to see my blog listed here, but I started it to shed light on what is still happening in the SGM churches, with the hope that others in authoritarian churches or churches who spiritually abuse can “see the light”.
About the emails from my pastors - you’re right, it was classic. And at the time, it was confusing and very hard to respond to him with a clear head. Hard to explain. I tried to walk in love. I had actually left the church with no explanation except the first email - they didn’t see it coming at all. The line that got me was when he said he “wished he had the place in my life where I’d give him the benefit of the doubt” or something like that - scary! Basically he was saying, I wish you’d just let me manipulate and control you like everyone else and not ask questrions or get convicted or confess to idolatry, cause it makes ME look bad!
I did respond to his comment about claiming that is we are passionate about the Church then we will be pasisonate about Christ - I said I didn’t find this in Scripture, but found the EXACT OPPOSITE: passion for Christ results in passion for the Body, not the other way around. The other way around, as he propsed, results in worship of the Body, and not the Head (Christ) my whole point to him which he obviously missed or chose to ignore.
Love the blog here, know nothing of this church you went to but glad ot see an outlet for others still there…it is always important to share “the other side of the story”

Yeah, I can just see my husband agreeing with something like that when I tell him: “Gee, Honey, I am taking care of your children and giving all my attention to them, because I love you so much. Isn’t that enough for you?”

Amen to that.

Sorry about that. I was in a bit of a hurry when I was writing this, and didn’t double check. My bad. Anyway, I fixed it.
