Hood to Coast
Posted on August 21st, 2008 by catalyst into the About Us categoryI'm running in the Hood-to-Coast relay this weekend with some friends and family, and thus won't be blogging much for the next several days. I'm both excited and horrified at the prospect of running from Mt. Hood to Seaside, Oregon. But I subscribe to the theory that you only get one life and everybody dies, so you might as well challenge yourself, try new things and see what happens. (and by "see what happens", I mean, regret ever signing up for this thing)
In the meantime, let me leave you with this fun little article sent in by reader, FICM. The article from Christian Post proposes the theory that everytime we watch television or movies in our home, we allow terrorists to visit our family. It's a classic, why people think Christians are Crazy, article. And I certainly heard similar sermons when I was a child. It's so ridiculous, I like it.
Best quote:
Take the practical steps to remove these terrorists from your home. Limit T.V. viewing. Screen the media your kids want to engage in before you let them do so. This includes T.V., movies, and music. Be careful not to let them have T.V.’s in their bedrooms. Instead of family movie night, have family game night. Not only can you do that, but you must. It is the only hope your children have in the midst of a culture that is bombarding them with missiles of deadly assault at a velocity once unthinkable but now a bitter reality.
Love it!

Hey cat
I’m doing the Portland to Coast walking relay portion of the event. I’m assigned Legs 16 and 28. It’s my first time too and I’ve thought Geez, what have I gotten myself into. Though the hardest part I think will be having to be stuck in a minivan for hours with a bunch of other people. When my legs come up I imagine I’ll be like, Yeah, get me out of this vehicle and let me stretch!!!!!!!!
Have a great run. See ya at the finish line in Seaside…….!
Oh, and btw, that article is unreal! I had no idea that Spongebob or Friday night Wrestling had so much evil over my kids. Damn. That’s my problem. We should be playing monopoly instead and that way they could be learning about good old-fashioned corporate capitalism and how to be greedy. Or Clue, where murder and cover ups are all the rage. Or dangit, our game night could be about Poker, teach ‘em while they’re young how to bluff their way through a hand and gamble the family savings away, all in one swoop.

The utter ridiculousness of this article is astounding. Just when you thought that Ron Luce couldn’t get any more outrageous and legalistic, he goes and pens a masterpiece in modern American legalistic and fear-mongering theology like this.
I’d love to ask Ron Luce exactly what a “terrorist” is. According to most dictionaries, a terrorist is a person who uses fear to try and frighten people and/or governments into doing what he/she wants. Which means that you, Ron Luce, are a terrorist.

It’s rare that two posts so close together overlap, so I couldn’t help but point out this article on Ron Luce’s ministry “Battle Cry”.
(emphasis mine)
While this article is obviously slanted to criticize Luce, I can’t help but agree for the most part that Luce & Co. are dangerously close to cult-ish behavior by training kids to blindly follow whatever their leaders tell them. If you follow the other two parts of the article, the militant language used by Luce and others is quite disturbing.

Just wanted to clarify…this is a Christian Post article, not Christianity Today.
