Has Faith Harvest Gone Too Far?

Someone recently posted this comment and I thought it deserved it's own post so that all could read and comment.

SICK, SICK, SICK. I can not believe it!!! Has anyone else seen the CBC website about Faith Harvest? They are now using hungry Cambodian children to help raise money for the latest capital campaign. This is too far. This is wrong. Why oh why do people keep giving these lunatics their hard earned cash? Fine, preach tithing. But combating the flailing economies certain affect on your revenue stream by flashing photos of hungry children in the third world is truly a new low. I would pray for a bolt of lightning to strike the domes but it would probably see it as a sign that God somehow approves of you guys. Mark Estes should be ashamed for narrating this video. Mark, you and I both know that the vast majority of that money will never ever end up in Cambodia. Why can’t you guys on that hill just for once be honest about where the money is going to go?

Pretty sad indeed.

  1. I have to agree. I watched the video and somehow I kept hearing “we’ll retire the debt on the rocky butte campus”, from 2004 (?) That somehow turned into purchasing the Vancouver campus/ice rink instead.

Once you give them some $$$, it is theirs to do with as they please.
There are NO checks or balances on leaderships’ decisions, they will bait and switch like a used car lot.

  2. Has Faith Harvest gone too far? Yes.

So I watched the video and I didn’t even get it. What was the point? It just seemed to be another exercise in building their image. Although as usual, their promotional material comes off as rather cheesy.

  3. FYI

It looks like they have a few other videos as well. Romania. Food Bank. Probably others. Listen, I think it’s great what they’ve done in Romania and Cambodia and with the Oregon food bank. I mean that. I just get fired up, and think fairly so, when they create marketing propaganda that is not straight forward and misleads people into thinking that they’re faith harvest offering will suddenly land in the hands of the neediest families in the World. The fact is, that Jason and Angie Prosser (Cambodia Video) had to beg the eldership for YEARS to send them overseas. And Angie is Ken Malmin’s (Executive Pastor) daughter. This is the fact of the matter friends and this is how excited they really are to send your money out of those two domes.

  4. Tell it like it is or was Sola Fide! Its the same at every MFI church. Someone
breaks out of their reigns of control to the do the work of the gospel and if it
looks like it may work or be an actual “ministry” they then take credit.

We’ve seen it time and time again. You’ve got to give them credit though
to use children from Cambodia to touch the hearts of their over used tithers
    now that is priceless!

  5. If you can find an authentic ministry on Wendell –Frank’s or Ken’s web site
we’ll pay you a finders fee. Go ahead and try. They consider the groups
they have such as seniors and adult bicycle groups their ministries. Hate to
tell you that ALL other churches have those as a given – age related groups,
but on top of it they actually reach out to the poor, the lost and those who don’t know Christ. Its called the Great Commission folks.

At Capital they use a local outreach supported by many area churches that
does medical mission work as a front for “yes we care for the poor”.
Only because the Dr. who started it somehow hangs onto going to church there.

Of course he could do it with or without them but it sounds great.

Don’t get usstarted on how they made the entire city give them 3 standing ovations at a luncheon for another outreach semi- related to them. They were exemplified as having a heart for all the poor of the city by saying they were going to build a strip mall on site of the church. It was supposedly going to have space there for the outreach.

How were these 3 standing ovations and alot of hooplah garnered by the crowd you ask? By showing a rendering -or picture of the imaginary building that never got built. Those of us who knew them knew it would never be built but hey what are details when you are a non-profit fronting as a church. As far as we know another word was ever said about it locally, at church
or in the paper. But hey it made Capital that day look good that day so thats
all that counts. Guess it was worth the price of the picture.

the con artists that exist in this game.

We’re onto you guys. How much longer do you think you can win your
shell game? Quick I hear the heels of the I.R.S. coming to take away your
    tax free status.

  6. Sorry about all the typos in the previous text -but when you rant on the non-reality and outright deception you were a part of –its hard to check your grammar!

Once you find real gold you cannot stand wood that has been painted with cheap gold paint. I hope everyone finds men and women of integrity –whose word is their bond, whose handshake is as good as a promise and who love the truth even with their lives.

Now I understand the verses predicting men will become lovers of money and of themselves. I just didn’t know it would be in the church or as my new pastor says: Real Christianity doesn’t look anything like that! Well said.

Brilliantly said D-2 !! Btw, it’s GREAT to have your voice back on here bcz no one says it quite like you do! So, keep it coming, we do love to hear!
    :-)
(Note: Detox2 is like an investigative reporter first on the scene, so to speak, pointing to the latest articles on what’s up in the extreme church/parachurch world among other subjects. Then I get all fired up about it and bloviate. But if it weren’t for D-2, I probably wouldn’t even know about it! What’s kind of humorous is D-2 is usually onto the NEXT newest word on the street while I’m still lamenting over the last! Gives us a new meaning to the old intercessor prayer term: Forerunner.)

Apparently all that praise so willingly received was their reward here on earth. But the leadership receiving the praises of men is one of their hallmarks, much like the Pharisees, who paraded around on the streets in their fine robes, praying in public so all could hear them, receiving the due adulation from the towns people.

Another hallmark to their ‘ministry’ is that they constantly dream up plans for this and that but the plans don’t seem to pan out. Plans to help the poor were often derailed by using designated funds to do something else.
Then of course no one is allowed to talk about that or ask questions where their money went. Even now, if the pastor’s daughter read this she would say we are slandering them. (Slander involves false statements).

We’re onto you guys. How much longer do you think you can win your shell game? Quick I hear the heels of the I.R.S. coming to take away your tax free status.

It’s churches like this that may ruin it for the churches that are actually doing it good, doing it ethically, and therefore helping the poor in their cities and abroad. That’s what makes me vivid, knowing that the judgment that will come upon those Churches who deal with their finances in an unethical way may spill over to those who have tried so hard from day one to set up safeguards for themselves; i.e. the IRS may yank tax exempt status from ALL the churches in the land because God will finally not allow shady dealings any longer. Unfairness at its worst, but how else will it happen. The IRS probably wont take the time to look at each individual church and say this one did it right, this one wrong.
If intercessor type individuals want to be in prayer 24/7 perhaps this is an issue they should focus on, that due judgment will come to those who feel the are above the law, yet not affect the honorable pastors amongst us who really NEED their 501 c 3 to keep their helps ministry going.

  9. Yes Yes Yes! Well said. We’re told to understand or know the times and seasons we live in. Well if they didn’t feel the “Shift” that happened when Obama was elected than they never will.

Its so true that the prosperity thugs are the ones who will ruin it for the very small minority who are doing the true work of the gospel.

We used to hear –oh thats not our calling –to help the poor or impoverished or even frankly those who were wealthy materially but struggling with addictions or kids who were out of control. Either way it was messy.

What we did hear was ‘We are called to the Nations or to Washington, D.C. our job is to pray for the nation’s leaders. It’s that church across town that has that call to the poor or downtrodden or to do the actual work of the gospel.
Not us brothers! In fact we were often instructed to forward their calls to the ministry across town –they quote have the resources to help them. Its their calling. Like we didn’t? 1.4 million dollar homes paid for with our tithes and townhouses in D.C. right across from the Capital?! Yes that was our call. A
wake up call alright. So glad I finally got one and got out of your restrictive bubble.

Its so freeing now not to have to cover or lie for you any longer and many others feel the same. Co-dependents in your conspiracy no longer. It must be stopped before you get all of us in prison or worse with the coming democracy.
Thanks for the being the example of what we don’t want to become.

This is the truth in love. Love for those who learn to love the truth.

  10. I am visualizing a huge door –that is metal and about 2 ft. thick, much like a huge bank vault. It is closing on you and your activities down in Washington D.C.

Just thought you’d like to know what I see because its going to happen to those who have not walked in their integrity but were lovers of men and money even to their own hurt.

You’re not the only ones who can pray for for things to be exposed

  11. Hey guys, It’s November and time for another month of Faith Harvest sermons! Bonus: there are FIVE Sundays in November!!

In this economy, I wonder how it will go. :?
