Jumpin on the Grace Bandwagon

The theme for the 2009 Generation Church Conference is: Embrace Grace

It's nice of the City Church to finally start talking about grace, eight years after it became a popular concept.

Of couse, knowing Judah Smith, the sermon will be 50 minutes of Judah focusing on the word embrace and telling mildly procative stories about how to embrace a lover. Followed by a 10 minute anecdote on how being the star of his high-school basketball team taught Judah to be gracious to the less talented guys on his team. And it will end with him losing a piece of jewelry in his hair. (that hair always cracks me up)

But still, it's better he focus on grace than on cash. So, I'm actually kind of impressed. Good for him.

  1. better he focus on grace than on cash.

I hope so, but in the CBC dictionary, grace is defined as God pouring out of his heavenly windows good luck, prosperity, health and happiness. And of course, the windows of heaven are controlled by tithing.

    sigh.

  2. I listened to one of Judah’s sermons titled “Embrace Grace”. The best way for me to describe it would be “Blah”.

He talks about Grace which is nice…but it was very clear he didn’t understand it. You could have taken any theme (faith, love, giving) and traded it out for the word grace and have the exact same sermon.

Judah is the same guy who says “Some people think Grace is grease…”

    Good luck at that conference.

  3. I’ve never heard anyone break grace down like Negrodamas…you think they would ask him to speak at the conference? It could happen, right? Well maybe if hell freezes over??

  4. I would pay for my plane ticket, hotel (well probably motel), food, rental car and no love offering honorarium for a shot at speaking at the conference. That would be hilarious!!!!

  5. Someone should start a Facebook Group, lobbying the City Church to let Eric Knox speak at their Conference.

The "Let Eric Knox Speak at the Generation Church Embrace Grace Conference" Facebook Group.

Depending on how much beer I drink during these next two football games, you might see just such a Group created.

  6. Too bad they have already spent the $$ on web design and print media.

About 15 of my facebook friends are fans of GU and GC already.

  7. I heard plenty of wrong advice from him when I was a young, naive, impressionable kid. Eventually, I grew up and discovered that the real world doesnt work like that.

  8. Come one Generation Church…we know you are reading…you want to preach grace, why don’t you have someone who really knows it speak. If you are really all about Jesus…I DARE YOU…
