  1. Congrats on Two Million Served!

Have you been following the latest on the Ted Haggard/New Life scandal? The church has been secretly paying hush, er, “compassionate assistance” money to a young, former church volunteer, Grant Haas, who Haggard took advantage of. Haas went public after he claims the megachurch failed to pay the remaining $46,000 of its $179,000 settlement.

Interestingly, New Life’s pastor made a point of assuring the congregation on Sunday that the “compassionate assistance” money was being paid by insurance and not from their tithes according to KRDO.com. It seems New Life is very concerned that its members will stop contributing if they know their money is going to the pay-off their former leader’s sexual indiscretions. The Catholic Church faced the same problem when its members balked at having to literally pay for their priests’ sex crimes.

I have to wonder though, is New Life’s insurance provider really paying-out the settlement? I don’t know much about insurance, but why would an insurance company require a settlement to be paid in installments? It seems the only benefit of installments is to keep the victim from speaking out, which I wouldn’t think would be a insurance company’s concern. And why would an insurer risk exposing their insured to additional, costly litigation by violating the terms of the settlement?

I wonder if there is any insurance church members can buy to protect their tithes?

  2. If members find out it is NOT insurance paying the “compassionate assistance” money, then the current leadership will be seen for liars and manipulators and the 2nd exodus will be greater than the first.

Gee, I wonder what the word on the street is up in Morrison, IL – they had Ted in for a conference last fall.

  3. Congrats City Business Church! I know this blog has done a lot for me over the last 5 years. I remember the first time I logged on in December, 2004. I was at a Christmas party (with people who have CBC ties) talking church and someone asked, “have you all seen the new blog started by the Morton brothers?” We spent the rest of the night cracking up and sharing our war stories. I have been an avid reader and commenter ever since. Good job boys!

BTW people…we’ve been talking Haggard in another thread for those of you who are interested.

  4. Wow whoever made this stupid website is really cool…not… you guys need to grow up and start reading your bible cause if you were you wouldnt be writing these things. first off… you guys are lame and you should just sit in a box and close your eyes cause you have nothing going for you in life… unless you pick up your bible and shut your mouth and read and than maybe… maybe you will be able to think clearly. God loves you. have a good day. oh and city bible loves you too. :)

This makes me so upset. After 4 years and over 2,000,000 hits there are still people out there who are just now finding us out?

I guess there is still work to do.

  6. Well while we’re all busy congratulating ourselves PF has went out and gotten a new home. I’ve heard it’s quite a spread. Anyone out there have the 411 on his new digs?

  7. [Comment ID #36524 Will Be Quoted Here]Interesting timing, if true. I wonder how many in the church have lost jobs etc..

I can’t help but wonder about that $500,000 offering that benny perez raised just before Christmas.

  8. Congrats and thanks for keeping on.

Can I make 2 requests that would make navigating the blog simpler?
    1 — create a “home” button
2 — insted of “unread comments” maybe a “recent comments” would be more useful. Because once you’ve read the comments, then the original post is buried in archives somewhere and it’s near impossible to find it again.

    And again, thanks…

OK anna, you put into words what I’ve been thinking ever since I got here…one of the things that’s just ticked me off about this site.

Good job, you ol’ school marm, you :) I keep telling everybody women are smarter than men.

However, you’re wasting your breath….not gonna happen. To quote Luther, Warum?

    Uh, here’s why….

    –>stubborn adj. Pronunciation: \ˈstÉ™-bÉ™rn\
    Middle English: stibourne, stuborn

    1 a (1): unreasonably or perversely unyielding : mulish

(2): justifiably unyielding : resolute b: suggestive or typical of a strong stubborn nature: as in, a stubborn jaw

I mean, how long have we been crying for an “edit your comment” feature around here?

For all those things uttered in the heat of battle, when the blood is pounding so hard in one’s brain due to reading asinine comment after asinine comment, that one is nearly beside themselves, as they furiously pound out a there-take-that-you-moron rejoinder to some know-it-all, pompous schmuck?

That stuff for which upon further review, we scream out:

    OMG…I can’t believe I just typed that….

    -joe

  10. when the blood is pounding so hard in one’s brain due to reading asinine comment after asinine comment

    I know, I know, I can hear it now…..

    “Oh really, joe?”

    (joebib asinine quote goes here)

  11. To post here, a person needs only enter a name and email. After the moderator(s) approve the first post, every one thereafter is automatically approved.

An edit feature would probably require password-level access which would likely do away with a lot of comments – such entertaining contributors as Boobio, Donald Bradson MBA, CPA, NAACP, ED, SOB, ETC, as I suspect none of the random drive-by shooters have enough wattage to remember a login and password, let alone, the url to find their way back here.

  12. 2 years later and we are now over 3,000,000 hits. This blog is like a cockroach…it just won’t die. (Sorry Frank).
