Miss California Speaks Up
Posted on April 21st, 2009 by The Reformer into the Politics categorySince we've been showing some good YouTube clips lately (and I live in California), I thought I'd share this. This woman has been in the news a lot lately so I'm sure most people have heard it by now, but nevertheless it's still interesting. Whether you agree with her or not, at least she spoke up for her beliefs while millions were watching and basically gave up her dream of becoming Miss America. I don't think beauty pageants are the forum for a political debate but glad to see she didn't coward away from the issue.

You could see how disappointed poor little Perez was. It was pretty obvious that anything other than “Gays should get married in every state, regardless of what other people think” she was screwed. I think she gave a very neutral answer, while sharing her own opinion.
And by the way, how in God’s name did he get the job of a judge? He’s just some gossip rag blog writer. Hey Catalyst! Maybe you can be a judge next year. hahaha

Excuse me, but I think she sounded animurish and cliche-ish. “In my country … (oops I mean family) “I don’t want to offend anyone out there” “that’s the way I was raised..” doesn’t she think for herself? I think she lost because she sounded stupid and shallow.

See the news lately? I hate to say it, but I told you so!

Checking In … do you have any links to the pictures?!?

They claim to have nude photos, but no one has to yet to see such photos. The only photo shown is no more nude than the bikinis they wear in the competition. If that’s “partially nude” then half the pageant they are runnin’ around naked. Good grief!
I think this is just a terrible smear campaign. It’s a rumor and until someone is willing to post these photos I think it’s just a fabrication.

The girl just stated her beliefs in front of the whole country knowing she would face major criticism. Whether I agree with her or not, there’s a hell of a lot of people that would deny their faith in even less cumbersome situations.
As far as the other stuff coming out about her…who cares. She got a boob job and took “racy” photos. Big deal.

The boob job and racy photos show the hypocrociy of her character. That’s what she’s getting the flack for. If someone has a belief to speak out about publicly, they should have the life to back it up. I’m not asking for perfection, just a a step higher than smutty photos.
The photo shows her in panties, barebacked with her arms covering her breasts. That pose is for the purpose of looking sexually provocative. If she didn’t know that, she’s very ignornant.
Would Jesus want a woman following him to be living with such extensive value on outward “worldly” beauty? I think he’d cover her with a cloth and say, you are loved for who you are, not for what you look like. Come away and sin no more.
This is the case of crying “I’m persecuted for righteousness sake” when in reality it is “consequence for stupid behavior sake”.
You know… I get the feeling I’m one female crying in the dark when talking to you “righeous” men about the evils of exploiting women for sex.

checking in, I agree with you. Yet, did she have the picture taken when she was young and stupid. Many people have done things that they regret. If she repented, that’s between her and God.
Yet, there is a hypocrisy when she talks about family values and then theres the picture. I feel this is taken way out of context. I had no idea who she was until the media was all over this.
Overall, I feel that todays beauty pageants are sexist and demeaning to women. It’s all about a superficial, commercialized idea of beauty. Sure these girls were involved in charity work but its usually to promote self. Other than that, have any of these girls contributed meaningfully to society and used their minds? Beauty pageants do not acknowledge the “whole” woman. Beauty pageants are ridiculous anyway. They produced Sarah Palin for one
When women are being portrayed as objects and when men treat and view women as objects, they are not understand how God created women. I totally hear ya. I’ve been frustrated with many “godly” men for their views of women.

Nina. YES! Hear Hear!

It’s obvious that beauty pageants are worthless. We still don’t have world peace.

If ever there was proof that this world is shallow and without concern for the value of every life, it’s the ‘beauty pageant’.

Okay, we all agreed. How about another topic of shallowness - CBC conference? Its spiritual shallowness to me.

Miss California “Sex Tape” Scandal
Ok so after reading this I guess she is a bit hypocritical. Young or not, if you are going to claim sexual purity, abstinence, and anti-gay, you better not have a sex tape floating around.
