City Church Sells Rowhouse in DC

Last September, the City Church sold their DC rowhouse, for 1.6 million dollars. They bought the home in 2006 for 1.4 million and sold it three years later for 1.6. If there was nothing funny about the mortgages (big if), and depending on how much money they invested in the property (they definitely invested a little), then they may have made a nice little profit. Which, you know, good for them. I was clearly projecting a loss on that investment.

I'm not sure why they purchased the home in the first place. I suspect it's because it was during the peak of the Christian Right's influence in Washington, and Wendell wanted to get in on the action. But those days are over, at least for awhile.

They still have a church in DC, but they are meeting in the auditorium of the American University Campus. Which is probably, what they should have started out doing in the first place.

  1. It was a pretty nice building. I got to stay there for a week on a NPC trip.

I think part of the reason for buying had to do with preparing for the planting of city church d.c. The pastors were living there at the time, and also to help work with the National Prayer Center just 2 houses down.

It was an awesome week, hope to go back soon!

  2. Hi guys, it’s nice to see you back!

I thought the DC church had the use of some fantastic building for a mere pittance. — or was that the Pearl church? It’s hard to keep track.

Ya, I second that Anna – about nice to see you back!

There’s also the NPC connected to Wendell’s cousin Ken – you could be remembering that one. We blogged quite a bit about it here.

Really? Couldn’t they accomplish those goals a lot easier and cheaper by just renting an apartment?

The gullibility of people who go to the City Church never ceases to amaze me.

  5. Right on Catalyst! If you check the original post- those of us who worked to form the National Prayer Center tried to ask questions and fill in the blanks when we say Seattle going down the same road –or is that into the same ditch. Did the church even know they were purchasing the so called row-house? Psuedo church building? For what price? Why did they need it when the Prayer House sits empty most of the year at a huge expense to its home church?

Could it be the two pastors wanted matching condos back on the hill? Its great to feel important, or take another step toward dominionism on Capitol Hill isn’t it? Its unbelieveable how gullable we were in not asking questions. Of course if you did you were answered with a stare and if you were on staff you could suddenly find your office moved to the storage shed, and your desk exchanged for a card table. Wish I were kidding!

Maybe in this age of economic turmoil they just plain needed the cash back.
Once again another plan, another vision that was sold as a bill of goods that we could all get involved in and be a part of has turned to ashes. All we took with us when we left that church was wood, hay and stubble! The knowledge and experience however are priceless in helping others understand and hopefully wakeup before its too late. They never meant you to have a part in it!
Thats part of the plan. Just ask anyone who was originally involved in starting the NPC—that is if you can even find them. They have scattered to the wind.

Its time to wake up before its too late. Where is the fruit from the time, energy, effort, tons of money, videos, dvds, radio programs, web sites and countless trips from money raised by people thinking they were going to be a part of helping turn the nation around? Just asking ?

  6. For what price? Why did they need it when the Prayer House sits empty most of the year at a huge expense to its home church?

Out of curiosity, I looked this up, and they paid $850,000 for the NPC in 2000. That’s about $6,000 a month for the mortgage. I am curious how they pay for it. Donations, maybe?

  7. Ha! First of all good research —they never think we have the ability to look things up like that online or how about the lawsuit file? Its amazing what you can find out from the State office about your church that is all in the public domain. If they were forthcoming it wouldn’t be necessary, but it is.

We have been asking this same question –how do they keep going? With Tom Delay Dancing on the Stars we’ve been wondering if he still has the capacity to help them afford it. Or was was it the Family Research Council with
Ed Buckham who used to speak to us, Delay’s assistant who is helping them out now. They think we all have amnesia but the internet is chock full of details, videos, information that does not go away even when they remove things from their site. As a lawyer friend said –once it is posted on the internet it can be retrieved forever!

With the numbers going down here in the home church, tithes disappear especially the extras they were getting for projects like this one. Eventually we saw the church’s core budget go to help keep it afloat but we still don’t know how they are managing. Of course you can continue to pull equity out of the church and redo loans continually, but even Enron had an ending point where the books could not be re worked any longer. With no read board looking on or asking questions who’s to know? Oh yea –there is One who does watch!

Till then we will continue to monitor and watch and ask these pesky questions about their finances! Not going away even if the people who were indicted were let off —for now that is!

    LOL! So true.
But of course THEY have amnesia having forgotten about all of us; like someone I know who still attends there reminded me ‘they don’t even think about you’. Well, that’s nothing new – they didn’t think about us when we were there. Now while they are busy with their oh-so-important lives forgetting about us, we are busy enjoying the info the internet (and other sources) offers!

even Enron had an ending point where the books could not be re worked any longer. With no read board looking on or asking questions who’s to know? Oh yea –there is One who does watch!

It’s so perplexing – their actions indicate that they think the rules don’t apply to them especially when the One IS watching. I guess they think their special favor and anointing from God will keep them afloat.

Yeah, it really is shocking how easy it is to convince Christians of stupidity by claiming “it’s God’s will.” I truly believe the anti-christ is not going to deceive the world into following him, he’s going to decieve Christians.

  10. Reformer, just saw your comment and I could not agree more. Our group of survivors down here in Boise have been saying the same thing. We always thought it would be the people in the world who would go along easily and follower a deceiver. The light has slowly been dawning for a while now.

Who could be easier to control than a group of followers from a Cult -like Church?

  11. Oh yea for good reading on “The Patriotic Church” we keep discussing jump on over Ken Wilde’s twitter. We couldn’t make this up! From of course being led to special seating by a Congressman -oohh aaaah, to another midnight tour of the monuments to rubbing shoulders with the elite.

Take a look now while its hot! Oh yea and God Bless America!

  12. Ken,

Healthcare Bill reforms, The Fellowship House next door, 501c3 Reforms,
    scandal after scandal ….

    How’s that working for you?

That one about Lincoln and style really throws you for a loop – “If Lincoln ran for president today he probably couldn’t win because we are more interested in image than substance.” What???

His entire regime has been about his image so what is he talking about?? Anyone who has endured that and had the lightbulb finally switch on to see the truth about their motivations – will be seeing RED when they read that!

The reason it’s all going backward instead of forward is because the intercessors simply haven’t been praying enough. But that’s nothing new. From the beginning of our ministry people think we are stronger than we are and think we can do it all alone. It is true that I have found that no one has a passion for prayer like me and my family. (By the way, why DOES my family have to do EVERYthing to carry the load? Even our pastor team is lagging behind in prayer, in everything really. You just can’t find good help these days.)

Seriously though, 24/7 prayer is SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH to combat the forces of darkness at work in our national political leadership today. The GOOD news is we NOW HAVE THE CAPABILITY of setting up 24/24 prayer! (By the way, no one else knows this yet but I’m letting you know that our Passion For Prayer Strategy team has recently been able to secretly access certain stratospheres whereby we can now link to time in eternity so we are NO LONGER LIMITED TO 7 PRAYER DAYS A WEEK!! Now all we need to do is raise the money to implement the development – This is a breakthrough of astronomical proportions! We are now beyond this earthly dimension! This is a LITERAL HEAVENLY DOWNLOAD! DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE WHAT A BREAKTHROUGH THIS IS???)

As I was saying, our nation needs prayer like never before. But 24/24 prayer is not for spectators only. Did you know that Passion For Prayer is a practically free legalized high in our country? So there is no longer an excuse to let your lead pastors do all the work. Participation from every member is paramount if we are to take over ground in our nation’s government.

Am I the only one who has a burden for this nation?

If you are with me on this please add your name to the PFP Sign-up Sheets in the foyer. Better yet, I know we’ve already taken the offering today but I believe that, in order to initiate your interest, you will need to ignite your heart first by GIVING to me and my family so we can keep flying back to our nations capitol. as a selfless act of loyalty to God, to ME this church, to our nation. Let’s take an offering right now or you can Click here to begin giving today!

  15. [Comment ID #37227 Will Be Quoted Here] OMG…we were members of the Boise church when they purchased the NPC…and oh, yes…all on donations while they Wilde’s lived in their gated community million dollar home, all of their children living in new homes & driving new cars…our tithes well spent, of course, earned by their employment at the church.
